D&D 5E Why Forums Should Be Ignored By Game Developers

An interesting thought that came to me is that WotC should probably cater to choosy DMs over laid-back players, because the players will play whatever the DMs do, but the DMs might take their business elsewhere.
The problem there is that not all of the choosy folk want the same stuff, so if you are trying to cater to most of them at the same time, you are by default not actually catering to the choosy folk.

It's definitely a balancing act! I think what they are (and should be doing) is going for a balance between majority of choosy DMs and what most interests the general player base.

For instance, polls (5e and before) apparently continue to rank fighter as the #1 favorite class, despite the fact that there are online arguments all the time about fighter not being satisfying for this or that usage/reason/aesthetic. So WotC can and should look at those arguments, extract useful stuff from them, and see if there is something they can do to make fighter options that are more satisfying for those who are dissatisfied. But what they should not do is to totally change the class in such a way as to focus on one particular element (whether making it complex, more tactical, inherently magical, comes with a BFS, etc) and risk turning off the masses of players who love their fighters.
