I know that most sodas have low amounts of acid (ascorbic, citric and/or phosphoric) which, unless you have an ulcer, our digestive systems are easily capable of coping with it. These acids are also commonly found in other juices.
However, when I was in the Navy, I was stationed on the Missouri and we used to use lemonade (without the sugar) to bleach the wooden decks. And we used the cherry "Koolaid" stuff to take off the tarnish on brass. It works really well.
