Amusingly, I also recall the "Lords of the Expanse" box set West End Games made for Star Wars, with the Tapani Sector.
Feuding ancient noble houses (with the role of the Empire greatly downplayed) with duels being common, spice mining being the economic focus of the sector, the role of aliens and droids being almost completely minimalized (way below normal for Star Wars), the entire box set seemed like an attempt to create as Dune-themed a chunk of the Star Wars galaxy as possible. (If you set it in an era other than the Empire, then the role the Jedi take becomes self-evident).
