Why not ask for help first?

Back then the forum was full of theorizing, completely impractical 'advice' mainly based on finding the most broken combos that the most farfetched interpretation of 'RAW' would turn up. You'd find the aforementioned one-trick ponies and min-maxed cookie-cutter builds but rarely anything that was actually useful for a concrete problem in a real game.
That is one of the two functions of the CharOpt board. I've heard it labeled "Unconstrained Optimization".

The other function of the CharOpt board is concrete advice ("Constrained Optimization").

Both exist and are interesting.

There is some excellent advice on the CharOpt boards, especially in the various class-related guides (which are all referenced in this post).

Obviously, YMMV when contemplating how much optimization is "okay" and how much is "munchkin". But reading the class guides is usually informative, even if you would never stoop to such things yourself. ;)

Hard as Rock is really nice and I like it - it's awesome. (Needless to say that I play a fighter.)
It's written by Lord Dusk Blade who has written some nice builds and other guides. His works are really good, IMHO.
