Why WILL you switch?

Because it looks like they are at least attempting to address all of my DMing pet peeves with the previous editions.

Whether they succeed or not…

That's another thing; I wonder how being mostly a DM or player affects people's view of 4th Ed.

I think it sounds like a better game than Third Edition. Fresher and more intriguing setting assumptions, cleaner mechanics which give players more interesting things to do at the table, everything.
Couldn't say it better myself.

Spot on.

In addition the DM tools for monsters, the condensed monster stat block and encounter design, along with faster NPC creation, and even on the fly formulas for NPCs all lead to more time thinking about what's going to happen the next session, and fleshing that out, rather than doing homework to prepare for game.

This is all good stuff, and definitely inclines me towards giving 4e a try.

I won't "switch," as in abandon my 3.5E games for 4E. But I will give 4E a chance to grab me and pull me in. The design conceits are clean and solid from what the two preview books indicate, and the gorgeous, top-notch artwork (particularly the landscapes and scenic vistas) has completely seduced me. I wish to remain active in the RPGA scene going forward as a DM, and 4E will be the way to do that.

My initial dislike of the 4E marketing campaign "3.5 is teh broken! Repeat ad nauseum!" really turned me off to the edition change, but what I've now seen of the game itself intrigues me and... dare I say it... has started to get me excited to run it.

I've started with BECMI and graduated to every new (and not new, as the case was for 1st ed AD&D) edition of D&D since; each time, I've found myself enjoying an improved playing/DMing experience. 4e sounds like it has a lot to offer and I like trying new things.

S'mon - if I end up back in South London I may rejoin your game, if you'd have me. :)

Back to topic - I'm with the people who think that less preparation time is a main feature of 4e. It's tempting me to DM, and the way the game is constructed fits well with what I want to do in terms of playing, too.

Official come back tour. Been away from the books far too long. Easier to make a fresh start with a clean slate this way. always good to start from 'the beginning'.

...plus info so far points toward that word we don't use anymore...
or in my preferred parlance: Nasty! :uhoh: :p

I'll play whichever game turns out to be the most fun. I won't know how 4e qualifies until I try it, of course, so we'll put it through its paces and see how it feels. Based on the opinions of people I trust, I expect to be favorbly impressed.
