Why WILL you switch?

For me its pretty simple.

I like what I've seen, yes. It looks like it may be more interesting to play, and easier to run, true. However, I am in exactly one D&D game.

And my DM is going to switch.

So, it's either drop out of a really cool and fun group, or pick up the books like a rabid fanmonkey...er...I mean...

I wont have any choice.

I've kept all my books from all editions (basic through 3rd).

It's nice for reference:

'See; this was a particularly crap edition…'

Where else are you going to get a random streetwalker encounter table.

Well likely i won't but if I do switch most likely it will be because of the DI. The ability to play online with something that looks nice is very tempting. It depends on a few factors but that is by far the most likely thing that would get me to play 4e.

  • It should solve the pacing issues I had with 3e.
  • It looks like they put a lot of effort into making the game easier to run and prep for without sacrificing too much of the tactical combat or PC build complexity I enjoy.
  • It seems to be more wahoo on the martial end and less wahoo on the spell casting end.
  • It drives people with gaming styles I don't enjoy absolutely nutters.

I'll play whichever game turns out to be the most fun. I won't know how 4e qualifies until I try it, of course, so we'll put it through its paces and see how it feels. Based on the opinions of people I trust, I expect to be favorbly impressed.

...and that will do for me, as well.

Except for the following.

I never 'switch.' I never really 'abandon' anything.

I merely add another cartridge to my gunbelt.
