D&D General Wildemount's Core Spawn

I am building up to a big adventure site with Core Spawn (from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount -- they are Critical Role's spin on the Star Spawn from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes). I want to expand their ranks so I am looking for any suggestions of third party monsters that fit their alien insectoid "look and feel."

Also, for Critical Role fans, were the Core Spawn ever encountered in their sessions? If so which episode(s)? I would love to get some tips from watching Matt Mercer run them.

Thanks for any assistance.

Watch out for AoE control powers. A lot of the Critical Role monsters can mez a whole party if they are unlucky on saves, making them a lot more deadly than WotC creatures of the same CR. They also tend to move faster.

I’ve tended to use them as aliens, which show up in my games sometimes. I’m not familiar with the actual CR lore about the things.

Yeah, the Core Spawn seem a bit on the high side for their CRs, but only one has an AoE. The CR 1 crawler has pack tactics and 4 attacks, which could get deadly quick.

I assume they are tough because Critical Role has a party of 7+ and they can handle it. This is part of the reason I am looking for some lower-CR third party beasties to spread around, and leave these more challenging creatures in as highlight combats.

You may like the Skitterhaunt and Suturefly from Tome of Beasts. The Skitterhaunt is an insect infested with an ooze and the Suturefly is a giant insect that can sew a mouth shut
