Wilder, has anyone ever made/played?

1st I love the idea of the class conceptually. A pissed off mind rager is a unique pc concept. Wilder to Psion ts like the barbarian is to the fighter only give the barbarian a d8 for hit pionts or a 3/4 bab something that leaves you with the "Im getting jipped" feeling.

Reading the class you quickly notice the limited amount of powers and the limited progression = to that of a Sorcerer (1 level behind Psion and Wiz) They have no access to discipline powers? without expending a feat.
They can wear armor, get cha bonus to touch AC and can boost up powers when "raged"

They basically have the same amount of powers as Warlocks have invo's but they can put a little extra stank on them...not terribly impressive.

So heres my question (s)

What are the tricks of the trade, how would you design your Wilder class?
Could a Wilder be a teir 1 class, teir 2? ever?

If you were forced to play one, what powers would you pick? what build comes to mind?

thanks guys / gals- yes I am being forced to play this class. The other players laughed when they saw what class I randomly rolled. So I now want to take on this challenge and come out "'GUNS A BLAZIN!!"

The key to the wilder is recognizing the ridiculous power output theyre capable of while also combating theyre limited selection. If you must go straight wilder use the rxpanded psionics power and cherry pick the brst of the discipline powers. Take a good hard look at energy missile for example.

A good hard look reveals that some psions can just pick it as a power, but Wilders will always have to wait ~4 levels later and spend a feat to get it. -_-

Wilder's not a bad class compared to all the others...., but it's so ridiculously similar yet inferior to a Psion that it's really hard to justify ever playing one. Same exact PP, worse manifesting stat, one level delayed progression, no disipline... Oh, and the Anarchic Initiate, if you don't ignore C.Psionic's existence (you should) completely obsoletes Wilder by giving the psion his primary unique class feature...but better.

Also, while psionics not having a relearning mechnaic like the sorcerer does (why is this?) is hard on psion, it's EXTREMELY harsh on the poor guy who has 1/3 as many powers known as him...

EDIT: Being forced to play a randomly rolled class sounds incredibly not-fun to me... Is anything forcing you to stay wilder, or can you go Wilder 1 / "Dear God Anything Else!" 19? ;)

My long-lived dream has always been to make paladin/wilder. Holy warrior who constantly goes dazed in the middle of combat makes the perfect Don Quixote.

You're not thinking it through homeslice. Psionics tends to have powers that are multi use. Whereas a sorcerer has to take a feat to be able to substitute energy psionics comes with it built in, usable at will with bonus effects to boot.

Yes, it's a feat to snag energy missile... but energy missile means you'll eat pretty much everything on the other side of the table and spit it out because you can do tremendous damage at will with +X to the DC to boot. For the especially tough nuts just pick up crystaline shard. With those two powers you can kill pretty much everything in the game and Crystal Shard is a first level power.

You then realize you can use your wild surge on all your buffs as well. You pay the minimum to cast it and then wild surge the rest.

I'm not saying wilders are the greatest class in the world... but they're not unsalvagable either.

What I'm saying is that with careful power selection you can handle almost everything that comes your way. Your first three powers should probably be crystal shard, psionic grease, and vigor. I could see spending a feat to get Astral Construct which is just gooey goodness with Wild Surge. At 12th level you'll have a 16 hit die construct with 39 strength and a host of special abilities at your command. Sure, it costs a feat... but Wilder's aren't an especially feat starved class, really.

d30 determines alphabetically letter your prime class will start with. It is gestalt (I know delete thread now ,right?) not my choice, this group loves the gestalt. Yes I can have other class (s) its just I need more levels in Wilder than any other class. Barbarian/Wilder was mentioned , and DM would allow me to manefest while raged BUT only attack, defense or movement powers and all powers must be max points

Hyperconsious has some neato stuff in it. I hear good things about Cerebral Rager. Its technically a "theurgy" class, which is a no-no in gestalt, but mayhaps you can con your DM into allowing it to cover both sides. Its much better designed that its arcane associate, the Rage Mage, and actually passing decent. If you really want to get so mad that you light people on fire, its an option.
