Wildspace, the GAME!? (Spelljammer)

was going through my D&D stuff as I'm throwing old stuff out, *sighs yet again*
So in my box with TSR, Ral Partha, Grendel catalogues and RPGA magazines I started reading through the 1992 TSR catalogue UK, was well I did, for what did I find, but this....

Well slap me bald with a giff's codpiece! :p
They were gonna release a Spelljammer game!? Damn...wonder if that's related to the allegedly dire Spelljammer live action TV show I've heard rumours about over the years?

pity the game never got released though...murder for some good Spelljammer minis...ships...Witchlight Marauders, giff, giant space hamsters!! muhaha!

Ack! Don't throw the old stuff out! Might be interested parties out there willing to take it off your hands. ;)

As for the Wildspace board game, the Buck Rogers board game out at about the same time as Spelljammer so I get the games would've been similar in set up.

Crazy Monkey
well, I previously offered, several times over past year here and on WOTC forums, my entire Dragon mag collection from about #120 to the last one, free, to anyone who'd come pick it up (just too damn heavy/troublesome to mess with otherwise)
...no takers
*shrug* last half going to charity shops this week :/

Being a Spelljammer freak, I'd have loved that game ;)
I have the Dragon Strike game, think I'll give to me cousin to Ebay as that's not so cumbersome ot deal with as the Dragon mags.

(Man, does it SUCK clearing yer stuff out, ick)

My understanding is that this was halted at the VERY last moment. Lisa Stevens has the/a mock-up box (probably the one photographed for the catalogues), and I think it even has samples of all of the game pieces. It does _not_ have a video, but judging by the still shots on the back of the box, the video was shot.

It is indeed a "Hyper-Reality" product in exactly the same vein as Dragon Strike. In fact, my memory suggests that most if not all of the main characters are the same as the ones in the Dragon Strike game. I specifically remember the druid dude with the raccoon eyepaint and Malibu from American Gladiators as "Fighter."

Not sure if the video exists in any finished form, but there is at least one mock-up copy of the game box floating around out there...

Well, I can't make it out to Scotland or I'd take them. ;)

Where's that Teleport spell when ye need it? ;)

Erik,
damn what a shame, sigh :erm:
Wonder what the pieces were like? Often those are the best thing in a board game ;) I still have my HeroQuest pieces as they were great as D&D dungeon props
In fact, I still have HeroQuest box set, but the pieces were used for years after we stopped playing the boardgame

Call me weird, but I thought the Dragon Strike video was a hoot! (A good laugh, that is)

I've pondered over turning some of my Spelljammer 3d models into real ones with rapid prototyping stuff...but total, painful, major job to do though, ack.
Spelljammer ship minis would be awesome!

And thanks for the info, much appreciated! :)
TSR just had so much great stuff going on back then. *casts Nostalgia, 10' Radius*

gah! Dragon Strike. That game was horrid, compared to the GW Heroquest game it was obviously modeled after. It's like the Plan 9 of "role-playing" board games. If the Wildspace game was modeled on it, I think I can guess why it never made it to print.

And yes, I still have my copy (and VHS that came with it).
