Will 4e powers suffer the same issue as 3.5 feats...not enough slots?

In 3x, you started out with the core feats, and everyone made their characters and did their thing. And then time past, and more feats were introduced. And more...and more, etc.

You then noticed a lot of house rules on the board where people started adding more feat slots to characters. Basically, people wanted more feat slots, they had all these feats and never had enough slots to use them.

I wonder if 4e powers will have the same issue. A few splats from now, we will likely have a ton of new powers to choose from, but will not have any more power slots.

Well people always want more... :)

One thing though I think they looked at is the different "types" of feats...

Feats that gave your character an extra thing he could do became powers. Things that made your character a bit difefrent but didn't add a new ability stayed feats.

I think this might help a bit, as you won't have to forgoe an ability in order to tweak your character.

And by 'you', you mean 'me'. :)

I really didn't note any sudden plethora of feat-laden classes. I noticed a lot of prestige classes with locked-in feat chains and were sometimes too powerful, but I can't say that I heard some outcry that there was some shortfall that needed addressing. In fact, I usually would hear from the fighter that there weren't enough good feats for him to use his bonus on one.

Our game is 4th level and our PCs have already used the retraining rules to try out a decent number of options available to them. It's a fantastic feature that adds to the fun of levelling up.

I haven't played a lot of 4e so this is not based much off of play experience yet.

In 3e I do go to a feat a level system. Feats became the main way to gain power for many classes and so many feats came out that made archtypes easier to do made my players feel like they needed certain feats to play their character. also, with so few it was a horrible choice for players since they new they had to pick the "right" feats since they gainesd so few. There were many cool but weaker feats no one would take because it was a waste.

In 4e though I'm not seeing the powers that everyone wants of feels like they need. Hopefully, that will continue but if many many more powers come out for existing classes this could easily change.
