Will all of you Ebberon-buyers become Blackmoor-buyers?

I wouldn't mind a summary of the relevant "hooks" of Blackmoor and how it differs from, say, Greyhawk or Kalamar, or what have you. In fact, the Kenzer folks have done a good job providing a two or three page summary document that I wouldn't mind seeing for every setting, for that matter. Something along those lines would be much appreciated.

I'm actually a bit more interested in Blackmoor than I was before this thread started, seeing it as little more than a rival Greyhawk setting. Now, I'm starting to suspect that maybe there's more to it, but what exactly is there that's different? Still don't know.

Thanks for coming forth to clear a couple of issues, Dustin.

I for one am a bit more curious about the setting now than I was when I read through the website.

I would like the know more about the new races. Are they more akin to merely new types of Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, and so forth, or are they totally new?

Could you expand on the technology immediately available in the Core Setting Book? You mentioned steamworks and clockworks, but I would like to know more specifics.

All in all, I would just like some more information on the setting.

Thanks,
Kane

More information would be great as I have no chance of picking up the book to take a look at it, and I will have to purchase online if I decide to buy it.

What about the fallen spaceship?

What future releases are planned?

Are there Giant Frogs :)

Clockwork and steam power, can you give more examples of how this is used in the setting?

I am going to put up some pics from the book regarding technology. Just head over to the site and take a quick peek at some of the tech.

The core book is designed to give an overview of this stuff regarding the kind of flavor. There wasn't enough space to put in the actual production/crafting rules, so we had to settle for the overview.

As for questions about giant spaceship, giant frogs, laser guns, etc. Do you guys really want to know about all that right now? :) What about suprises!??!? Don't make me give everything away!!!!!

Will we Return to the Temple of the Frog? Yes! :)

Will we tame Giant Frogs? Yes, as early as GenCon actually. We are running a mod called "Escape from the Temple of the Frog". All slots are full, but we are willing to run other rounds as people sign up for them. Pregen characters will be provided. Email me if you want to play a round. Times are flexible.

Will we battle the evil Egg of Coot? Oh yeah!

Future releases for the line include:

The Redwood Scar (64 page module )-November 04
Wizards' Cabal sourcebook (128 pages) February 05

continuing on we have:
"Clock and Steam handbook"
"DA5- The City of Blackmoor"
Return to the Temple of the Frog
Blackmoor Dungeon (To be the greatest dungeon delve ever!)

These are just to name a few. We are going to provide alot of support for the line on our website as well.

Those new pics are up in the Gallery section of our website.
Also, feel free to prowl our forums. We have some of the old classic players like The Great Svenny relating tales of his first adventures in Blackmoor.

Hmmm... Thanks for the pics! I will have to say that my curiosity has been piqued. However, I would like some more information on my above questions or even just a little more fleshing out before I really get that urge to put out the cash!

Thanks again,
Kane

1. Take any decent campaign setting. Yes, even yours!
2. Apply a budget to it like Eberron had, and hire really talented artists.
3. Profit!

Not bad, not bad.. I'm a bit disappointed to see that you won't be dealing with the high-tech stuff until a year or so down the road, as to me that's a big fun/selling point of Blackmoor.
But I do really like the addition of the steampunk stuff.

But just so people don't portray me as blindly anti-Eberron and pro-Blackmoor, would you say that the parts of Blackmoor that have developed the steampunk stuff are "medieval" or are we looking at a renaissance element to the setting here? I hope the latter.

Are there black powder weapons?

and where the hell is my laser sword!!?

Sorry, lost control there for a sec.

Ps. I know I'll like Blackmoor, given how it has the one big element that Eberron lacks: Eberron is straight out of hte box,pre-fabricated; whereas Blackmoor is actually PLAYED IN. As in, it has a history, its not all just a product of design, instead its the product of play. This ALWAYS makes a setting feel more genuine, more alive, because not all the elements in the setting are "thought up", in play, things happen that one doesn't nescessarily plan for.

Um ... I am very interesting in hearing more about Blackmoor, and don't want to see this thread sidetracked into a debate on Eberron vs. Blackmoor! (Eberron has been debated to death on these boards in recent days.)

Then mentioning Eberron in the title thread is particularly unwise, if this is meant to be an Eberron-free discussion.

Anyways, the important thing is that Blackmoor is about as "play history-rich" a setting as you can get, being just about the oldest of all RPG settings.
