Will psionics be in PHB 2, and when is PHB2 released? :)

I don't think we will see any Arcane, Divine or Martial in PHB2. I think it will just be Psionic, Primal and Shadow.

So far too, Primal seems to have the most classes that will probably fall under it:
-Barbarian
-Druid
-Sorcerer
-Bard

The Bard has been covered above, but Psionics...

-Psion
-Psy Warrior
-Ardent
-Lurk/Soul Knife

There's an easy four that cover all the roles. And as you can see, the Lurk/Soul Knife thing may not be collapsed into one class, and I'm not even listing the Wilder yet. So... I think Psy fills out the book a little easier. (Or, will be harder to fully implement due to space constraints. But that's what splat books are for.)

You know just thinking, they don't have to fall under the same numbers for the follow up PHB.

Since they won't repeat rules, and probably have fewer races (assumption), and less gear/magical items. This means there is much more space for classes, so instead of just being 8 like before we could have; 10, 12, 14 classes.

Again, from an interview with Andy Collins at D&DXP (source here):
"Apparently, they were not able to fit all of the Divine and Arcane information into the first PHB, so the subsequent information will also need space in the second book."

The Bard has been confirmed as an Arcane Leader here.
Aaaahh finally! Thanks for the scoop, I somehow missed it. Well, that will end all the speculation concerning the Bard.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Potential classes I see for the Eberron Player's Handbook:
-Artificer (Tech, Controller)

Potential races I see for the Eberron Player's Handbook
-Gnome (will come back in force!)
-Aasimar
-Warforged
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Potential classes I see for the PHB II:
-Barbarian (Primal, Defender)
-PsiWarrior (Psionic, Defender)
-Soulknife (Shadow, Striker)
-Druid (Primal, Striker/Controller)
-Bard (Arcane, Leader)
-Ardent (Psionic, Leader)
-Illusionist (Shadow? or Arcane?, Controller)
-Sorcerer (Primal, Controller)
-Necromancer (Shadow, Controller)

Possible Races I see for the PHB II
-Changeling
-Half Orc
plus some of my own wild guess:
-maybe the Tauran (for more WoWification!)

I think Changeling would be more likely for Eberron than PHB II. Gnomes are more universal to D&D, and thus a better candidate for PHB II.

You won't see the Psy power source without the Psion class. It and the Psy Warrior are the Psionic cornerstones.

I don't know why the Soulknife would be moved to Shadow. I could maybe see a reflavored Lurk with Shadow as a power source, but if the Soul Knife is brought over to 4e, I really think it'll be kept psionic.

I keep seeing people list the Sorc as a Primal caster, but I don't know why. Elementals are arcane territory, and what little talk we've seen on Sorcs directly reference elemental powers. Conversely, Druids are confirmed for Primal and it's mentioned that they are lite on elemental powers. (Strong weather.)

Soulknife as a shadow striker ?

I could imagine using a sort of shadow blade instead of the mindblade, but then it wouldn't be a mindblade anymore. Why don't keep psionics ?

And I find strange that you forgot the basic psionic class, the psion itself (will probably be a controller)

About the illusionist, it will probably be a class from the shadow power source, as "Shadow" as be hinted as covering (un)death, darkness and illusions mainly

Yes, I agree. But if EPH is released before the PHB II and it contains the artificer, I imagine that it will also feature the gnome. Since those two (gnome and artificers) goes hand in hand.

I know the psion is the psionic class cornerstone, but I figured that only two psionic class will appear in the PHB II, not more. And since there is already a lot of space devoted for other controllers, that the psion would be kept out purposefully to be showcased later on. These are just personal guesses and is nothing set in stone. I may be wrong.

I used that name, but I see strongly a shadow/striker. I apologize, the Soulknife was an inappropriate choice. Shadowblade perhaps could be a better name for it. The Soulknife could be featured together with the psion class later on.

You may be dead on. I just read again the R&C entry for the sorcerers. And I revise my POV, the Sorcerer will definitely be part of the arcane power source.

So, I see 2 strong alternate possibilities for the PHB II. Both possibilities with only 2 classes for psionic and with a total of 9 new classes. There could be a third option with 3 or 4 psionic classes, but I wouldn't bet on it.
