Will the end of Game of Thrones keep you away from House of Dragons?

It's actually the sexual violence of GoT that's keeping me away from the new show. I'm just not interested in putting that kind of stuff into my brain right now.

The "murder porn" was what had me drop off watching GoT, long before it was over.

That's another thing that keeps me away. The books themselves have a reputation for gratuitous sex, and that doesn't impress me. It's not the sex itself that's a problem, I'm not bothered by erotica. But gratuitous sex kind of screams, "Look, I did a sex scene, look how sophisticated I am!" to me and I am seldom impressed.

I recall Dean Koontz commenting in am interview that he did sex scenes in his books, until he realized that he wouldn't write a gratitous bathroom scene the same way. Usually thst stuff manages to be uninteresting on any level. Song of Ice and Fure was nit an exception. Personally, I tend to forget sex scenes in books, which has created awkward conversations after book recommendations.

Honestly, most of the time the literature had exposition and/or character interactions within the sex scenes. There is a few scenes that dont make sense as to their inclusion, but overall its few and far between. I think the show has far more gratuitous sex than the literature.

Not in the least. I just don't want sexual violence or any on screen torture. We skipped thru those parts.... The first episode looked great, no idea how I feel about the story yet. I am already more interested in the characters than anyone in Strange New Worlds....

Same. I think that the way we understand and relate to our fictions has changed over time, and that sort of egregious violence is not something I want to see either. It makes me wonder how people will react if GRRM ever finishes Winds of Winter and his writing hasn't evolved as well.

The end of GoT didn't keep me away from HotD. If anything, it made me more curious...could HBO manage to reclaim the public's goodwill after the ending of GoT? Which, judging from the reports on viewership coming out, they have.

It's going with a slow burn and set-up in the first episode, but I'm digging it.

I doubt I'll read another book, if he writes one. I just don't need the violence descriptions anymore. I've gotten to the point where more than a few people I know were at years ago, I guess.

The ending of GoT ruined my hype for this new series, I didn't even realize it was out yet....whereas before I probably would have been checking the internet religiously looking for any scrap of news I could find.

So I'll wait. Now if the reception is good, I'll watch it. I'm not going to "boycott it" just because of the horrific mishandling of the previous shows last season. But its got to earn it for me, whereas without that last season, I probably would have watched it day 1 sight unseen.
Yep, this is about where I am. If I hear it's really good, I'll check it out. But I'm not tuned in to it the way I am with, say, "Rings of Power."

To answer the OP question, no, it won't stop me from watching. HBO had very limited rights to make up their own stuff for the show. That was fine until you got to the point where the show caught up to the books. HBO's contracts with the actors didn't allow them to delay so they had to go with what they had. What they had was some pages of hastily compiled notes from George (George was contractually obligated to provide material - when the show first started, it apparently didn't occur to him that he would be so far behind). So HBO ran with the little material they had and turned out a crappy final season. There wasn't really anything else they could have done though.

Green Ronin dropped the rpg for the same reason. George insisted on reviewing all material personally. GR would give him the drafts and says they needed it back within 6 months to make their production queue. Six months later they'd call George only to find out that he hadn't looked at it at all. Eventually, they just said, "Screw it", dropped the license and re-released the rpg with the GoT serial numbers filed off.

Personally, I think doing a prequel was the right idea. We already know how the world ends up so there's less chance of George's "quirks" derailing 7 years of production.
