Baa. You're a sheep if you buy something without even looking at it.
In this case, by the time people can buy it, they will most likely have a very good idea what's in it - WotC will pump out a lot of promotional material before the release.

On another matter as the majority of mods are away at gencon, stop namecalling, it's impolite.

I was referring to the ~50 votes that say "I will buy it sight unseen," which I interpret as having no prior knowledge whatsoever about the given product. Countless times have I seen people purchase something without examining it, and they were disappointed when it wasn't what they expected. It's also stupid decisions like this that keep bad companies going when their products are not worth buying.

Not a wise way to spend your money, but it's your money to flush down the drain as you please.

Buy it? Of course, I'll buy it. I bought Scion, and Toon, and Agone, and Exalted, and a lot of other games I don't play, too.

Well, the PHB, anyway.

So you've never ever bought something without looking at it? Like food at a restaurant? Or a book from Amazon? Have you ever once in your life bought a CD from a band you like without hearing the songs on it first?

If so, how is this different? If not, how did you manage to pull it off?

Your derision for those of us who would – at this moment – buy 4E unseen is unreasonable.

I will probably borrow it, try it, not see an improvement worth enough the investment, and roll back to 3.0.

Just what we did when 3.5 came out :D

There's of course a chance that it's significantly better... in which case I would probably buy it. But there have been lots of RPG rule systems coming out in the last 5 years, and not a single one of them really impressed me to the point of switching to it, so I've been getting used to the idea that perhaps it's just not possible to make it better than it currently is...

A D&D book once. The only time I've been disappointed with a D&D purchase.

Like food at a restaurant?

Not unless I know exactly what's in it and I have a reference that it's a good restaurant. I can't remember the last time I ate somewhere new.

Or a book from Amazon?

The books I've been buying from Amazon are at least 2 years old. I've had quite a bit of time to look at previews, talk to people who own the book, etc. I've never been disappointed with something I got from Amazon, but then again I plan out my purchases quite a bit in advance.

Have you ever once in your life bought a CD from a band you like without hearing the songs on it first?

Nope, though people usually work in reverse: buy a CD because it has one song they like from the radio.

If so, how is this different? If not, how did you manage to pull it off?

There are thousands of websites/magazines/news channels that review whether something is good or not. There are also billions of people out there, it's not hard to find someone that already has it and ask them if it's worth buying.

Your derision for those of us who would – at this moment – buy 4E unseen is unreasonable.

From my experiences within the last 2 years, I think buying anything unseen from WotC is unreasonable. But like I said, it's your money; enjoy your flock.

I've enjoyed every edition of D&D and have felt that each edition was an improvement over the last. As long as WotC doesn't give me a reason to stop believing that about 4th edition, I will buy it.
