I'll buy the first one (or make strong hints that it's an appropriate Christmas gift). If I like it enough, I'll buy the second one. I've bought art books before, for more, and I expect to get a bit more information out of these than the art books.

I will most likely not purchase this item. While this background designing information sounds interesting, it is information which should be on their Design & Development articles on their website.

I voted yes, but I thought they were different than I've read in this thread. So probably not, I've got lots to read right now and can wait a few months for the core books.

Unless there is something useful crunch wise, probably not. I am awaiting reviews before I buy.

They already said that won't be the case. It is essentially a book previewing the ARTWORK of 4th edition races and classes and articles talking about their thoughts and feelings and fluffy inspirations for said classes and races. I think the only numbers you will see in the book are on the bottom corners of the pages.

That said, there may be some mechanical stuff gleened from the fluff-- like what this new mystery race is, etc.

*Thinking* Should I buy a product that showcases material that will be in the PHB? Should I buy a product that will probably contain several pregenerated characters and an adventure that is designed to work with only those characters at that level? Should I buy a book to play a single game once or twice when all the information to play the same game an unlimited number of times is being sold in a book only a few months later?

Na. But thank you for asking.

At least then you'd be able to try and reverse engineer some rules. As is, I don't think you will see sample characters-- only their portraits.

If it's a big gorgeous book of concept art: maybe. I like those.

If it's a wordy texty thing that has lots of marketing and very little crunch: no way.

Cheers, -- N

Will you buy the preview books? You know - Wizard's Presents: Classes and Races and Wizard's Presents: World and Monsters.

Saw the first one on famous dungeons in my FLGS. It was almost not there in terms of content. I expressed my distain for it and the only use I could think of to which it might be profitably put. My wife, having also looked over the "book," corrected me and found a more politically correct use. "No. The paper is too slick. But you could wrap fish in it." I stood corrected. :D
