Wingless Favored Soul

What are a favored soul's wings worth? He normally gets them at 17th level (when everyone can fly anyway). I despise the wings, and I'd like to replace them with something else. Any suggestions?

Well they are evidently intended as the "end game" class ability of a FS. In reality though, they are completely worthless. The party wizard had better have fly spells at 17th level.

Maybe one of the lesser abilities that a Contemplative would get?
Divine Health
Divine Body
Eternal Body
Mystic Union... minus the DR.

How about an alignment descriptor? For example, gaining the [Good] or [Evil] subtype and all the DR-bypassing-goodness that comes with it - fit the bill?

The old become-an-outsider saw would seem appropriate.

Yay! DR 10/magic for all those masterwork weapons that will be hitting you at 17th level!

Maybe gain the half celestial and/or half fiendish template? Probably too powerful... but maybe a toned down version of that... become an outsider, gain wings, and the good/evil subtype?

Not completely worthless... they're an Ex ability, that can be used all day. A fly spell wears off after a short period of time, and causes you to plummet if you find yourself inside an AMF, whether caused by another (stupid Arcane Archers....) or yourself for whatever defensive/offensive purposes you come up with (stops blasters cold, and makes things... interesting.... if you catch an arial spellcaster in a grapple).

Granted, it's not a particularly strong class feature, but a Favored Soul gets... don't have the books in front of me, so correct me if I'm wrong....

1) More spells per day than the Cleric.
2) Cleric BAB
3) Cleric HD
4) All good saves
5) Spontaneous casting
6) More spells known than the Sorcerer
7) Minor energy resistances
8) Weapon proficiency, Weapon Focus and Weapon Specilization on the Diety's Favored Weapon.
9) (at 20th) DR 10/Cold Iron or DR 10/ Silver (depending on alignment).

In return, he loses (compared to the Cleric):
Prepared casting
Full access to the Cleric spell list
Heavy Armor Proficiency
Turning
Domains

Flight as a strong class feature depends on the build of your Favored Soul. But for the most part, it doesn't really need to be. It is, however, kinda flavorful, as many of the higher CR Outsiders have wings of one sort or the other.

In the other thread about FSs I told of my idea to only take 15 levels of FS and take 5 levels of Thaumaturgist instead.

A FS/Thaumaturgist who has the healing/restore spells, the summoning spells, and the planar ally spells (in addition to still more that the FS could take at random) is likely a pretty useful combatant.

Outside of combat they will need a bunch of RP flavor - as they'll likely not shine one their own skills/abilities. Still, I plan on trying it someday.
