I wonder what effect a Class or PrC that pays in wings would have on a char/race combo that already has wings.

Well, if they are dragon like ... they become leathery skinned with feathers!

If they are already feathered wings ... ummm ... they develop a molting patern between the summer coat and the winter coat?

:p

What are a favored soul's wings worth? He normally gets them at 17th level (when everyone can fly anyway). I despise the wings, and I'd like to replace them with something else. Any suggestions?

Obviously it depends partly on the religion in question. The wings are a very angelic idea, which may not be appropriate for all campaigns/characters.

In terms of the game, wings give you the ability to move in a new and unique way. You could keep the same function by granting things like swim speeds and water breathing to a favoured soul of the sea. I'd be perfectly willing to go far beyond their original function though, at 17th level the ability to fly is pretty lame. Maybe walking through walls? (etherealness limited number of rounds per day), or teleportation like a monk's ability.

As it is more a flavour thing than anything of much noticable benefit, I think replacements/alternatives should likewise be so.

As I in fact asked this same question (well, almost) some time ago, I think I can recall that someone (I can't remember who) suggested replacing it with a similar-level (to fly) spell-like ability, usable at will perhaps. Along those lines, anyway.

Each ability should fit closely with the core elements and earthly manifestations (in the form of followers, temples et al) of each respective divinity.

How about his feet no longer touch the ground, ala the Elocater PrC's "Scorn Earth" ability from the XPH. That's pretty thematic/angelic.

Cheers,
Vurt

I have one in my campaign, not yet 17th, he is only 3rd but his deity is a fire/earth godess....in this case the wings are not the best choice.

OK, well. . . just off the top of my head, how about an increase to base speed (for fire) and a natural armour bonus (for earth) ? Maybe +10ft and +2 NAB? Or however much looks right. Uh, I know nothing else about this goddess, otherwise I'd probably suggest something *very* different, but hey.

With a bit of actually thinking it through, there's probably something a bit more appropriate out there, but it doesn't seem too off the mark to me, in my current frame of mind.

Some ideas:

- Golden Halo: Aura of consecrate 10 ft. radius, and daylight at will.

- Archon Squire: You gain the service of a Lantern Archon. If it is killed, it doesn't really die, and it comes back the next day (just like an animal companion). Your squire can manipulate stuff like an unseen servant, even though Lantern Archons under other circumstances do not indicate that they can act like this.

- Divine Luck: You gain the benefit of the Luck Domain power (reroll any d20 once per day). If you already had this, lucky you, these abilities stack. You can use at most one reroll on any particular roll.

- Aligned Weapons: Any weapon you wield penetrates DR as though it had one component of your alignment. Don't choose this if you're Neutral.
