If I have a gripe thus far (aside from a few layout elements), its this: while there is mention of Muslim orders of witch hunters, there is almost NO coverage of the middle east and north Africa in the game. It's very Euro-centric. Now is that a bad thing? Maybe not for most people. But I've grown kinda tired of the Euro/Western Centrism of FRPGs these days. I also lament that there are a lot of folks who might play this who will not be able to find archetypes or backgrounds to fit their cultural identity. It's not so much a flaw in the game as it is a missed opportunity, IMHO. I expect there are plans for a Middle Eastern sourcebook, but really if the Muslims are big-time witch hunters (as they should be) then that should be given more than lip service in the core book. I mean, Native Americans get their own Order, so why not?

Hi Tom! Glad you like Witch Hunter. The simple fact of the matter is that the 1689 New World doesn't have much call for Muslim orders of Witch Hunters. Witch Hunter: the Invisible World is a full line, and the Old World will definately get treatment, especially Africa (Solomon Kane spent a lot of time down there after all). The mention of Muslim orders was merely to indicate places we may take the game in the future.

I saw Witch Hunter at GenCon, and checked out my friend Quartermoon's copy -- except she had to smack me with a pillow to give it back. It looks that damn good. I'm really, really excited to play this game.

FYI, I did a short interview with Henry Lopez at Gen Con where he talks about Witch Hunter and the rest of the PCI games. It should be going out into the podcasting winds later this week/early next (I'm trying to clean up the sound a bit). I'll let you all know so you can hear it from Henry himself why this game rocks on toast.

Following up to my earlier post. . . I bought it, and am fervently attempting to finish it. It's sweet, real sweet. Lot's of in-depth history, very creative description and milieu. She looks like a winner, so far.

I played one of the Dark Providence adventures ("Age of Innocence"), and had a blast (diving off a roof to bury a tomahawk in a witch, for example).

I can't wait to read the book.

He does great work. I have not had the chance to read all of Witch Hunter yet but it is very good so far.

Glad to hear that folks are enjoying Witch Hunter. Rob took a basic mechanic that Henry, Nelson, and I developed a few years back and made a complete rules set for it, and did a great job. Henry, Brian, Scott, Rob, and I then put the Invisible World in place. I am as happy with this book (and happier than I was with most books) as I have been with any project from PCI to date.

Keep an eye out for the Witch Hunter GM Screen and Adventure Pack in a couple of months, and the Grand Tome of Adversaries before Christmas.

OK, I am finished reading Witch Hunter (grabbed it at Gen Con) and have digested it enough that I think I can speak intelligently about it.

Though I have yet to run a game, so far this thing is packed to the gills with awesomeness.

Seriously, the "tweaks" to the game world (meaning historical tweaks to our own world) are subtle enough to leave verisimilitude intact, but nicely enough done that modern sensibilities needn't be entirely suppressed to enjoy the game.

The art is fantastic and evocative. I'm not sure if the choice to go B&W over color was a financial or artistic one, but in any event, color art would've added nothing to the "feel" and probably would've necessitated the use of something I hate...glossy paper. I love reading this book sans overhead lighting glare.

This thing is a front runner for "Game I am Going to Run at Gen Con" next year :)

Thanks to CM's Tabloid Beleiver for giving me a heads-up on this book early enough that I grabbed it before it sold out.

Good to hear good stuff about it.

I just ordered it. I'll have it on Monday or Tuesday.

Between Changeling and Witchhunter, I've got some serious reading ahead of me.

:)
