Catching I'm unsure of, but throwing invokes the TWF penalties of -6/-10, and the TWF Feats don't help, as they apply ONLY TO MELEE, as per the RAW!

Neither the feat's description nor the section on 2WF in the combat section confirm this assertion.

That's his action, for that round. Forget the sword.

As above, hold it, but NOT use it!

Move action; make one attack, that round.

At -10, and attack with the sword at -10.

Also his action for the round...

D&D models an awful LOT of these, poorly! They don't seem to think that our "Heroes" are capable of much!

It models them fine. Considering that everyone else is effectively rooted in place and while a creature takes its turn, it shouldn't be capable of much in a given round.

Personally, I don't like that class for swashbuckling. It's a good enough class, seems balanced, and is quite fun. But yeah, it doesn't sit right with *my* preconceptions of swashbucklers and their derring-do, exploits and so on. I mean. . . sneak attack? Nah. :\
"Sneak attack" is just the name of the mechanic; you could just as easily call it, say, "precise strike"... ;)

Sneak attack is the d20 mechanic modeling the fact that if you feint, your opponent drops their guard, or your opponent is flanked, you do more damage by targeting a vital area. That seems pretty central to the duelist/swashbuckler concept, especially once you add in an unarmored AC bonus and acrobatic skills... which, by the way, the unfettered has!

And, really, it doesn't fit all that well with the genre. Renaissance dueling is just far too late for most campaigns.
I don't know, I see far more Renaissance-era campaigns when I look around online than I ever expected to.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the new Adventure Path -- with the ocean and all -- made Swashbucklers more popular, since sinking to the bottom of the ocean in armor makes for frustrating experience for players.

Catfolk? Eh. Not sure I'd use that. Githyanki or Githzerai would be a better choice.
It was a homebrew one, based on the Frey, which I lost in The Crash. Gotta find that thread, now that I speak of it...

I already know what Sneak Attack is, does, means and represents. And what I said before regarding that class stands as is.

There are quite a few flaws in the classes in AU/AE (I think). This particular one of them doesn't so much contain flaws as a lack of anything interesting or - as it applies to the matter at hand - appropriate to swashbuckling at all. It looks to me like a cobbled-together bunch of very standard D&D abilities, repackaged neatly but hardly uniquely.

It's unfortunate if that view displeases or even offends anyone - it's simply that though (*my* view).

And it's. . . well, funny I suppose. Because I actually like Arcana Unearthed and co, and am grateful for the (IMO) many useful changes and insights it has brought to the game. So what if a few of the classes are (IMO) lacking in some way or other? :)
