Wizard World Los Angeles (Who Wants to be a Superhero)

Mistwell

Crusty Old Meatwad
In case anyone is interested in stopping by and saying hi, my wife and I will have a booth at Wizard World Los Angeles this weekend. Melody will be in full "Hygena" costume, and several other members of the cast of "Who Wants to be a Superhero" Seasons I and II will also be there.

I'll be doing some reporting for ComicBookResources.com, but I should be around fairly often at the Hygena booth in the autograph area.

So, stop by and say hi! Wizard World is supposed to be a pretty good con!

So, Mist, if you don't mind the asking, is this just something folks do purely for fun? I figure the con at least provides a room, and maybe travel...?

For this particular con there is no room or travel, since it's only a half hour from our home. But yes, most provide a hotel and travel.

As for why do it? Well yes, my wife has fun. But it pays. Their booths are in the autograph area, and they charge for autographed head shots, signed Poloroid pictures with the actor, and other things like T-shirts and stuff. Her conventions are often booked by a Convention Manager, who takes a percentage and find and negotiates deals with Cons around the world.

For example, Fat Mamma, who cam in second place for Season 1, makes around $2000 to $3000 per convention, and has been sent to places like Australia and England. It's what she does full time for a living. This is her 7th or 8th con of the year I believe.

Lou Ferrigno has been doing this since the 70s! So has Erin Gray. It's not a bad living, for working only 3-4 days a week and speaking with fans. My wife does not plan on doing this for a living, but for this year she is having fun with it. And she is also donating a portion of the proceeds to two charities she likes.
