As long as the Bard is designed as someone who sings in a fight, it will remain lame.

Come on people, we don't know if the words "leader", "defender", "striker" and "controller" will even see print in the rulebooks. Heck, I'm guessing not.

I'd prefer not, but I think it could easily go either way.

I mostly like what I'm hearing, but the emphasis on healing seems strange. It's never really struck me as the bard's main shtick.

Hey Mortellan!

There is a reason why bards, minstrels, skalds, etc sing and write about heroic exploits, it's because they are on the sideline observing. It sounds unglorious and boring but that's a roleplaying reality unfortunately not a gaming reality. I stand firm, bards are inherently not for combat besides support, but are invaluable outside it.

You mean like Vainamoinen, Finland's greatest hero of legend...?

Perhaps you need to rethink what it is to play a Bard, I think maybe you have been caught up in the D&D stereotype of the 'ineffectual' Bard.
