D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

This is an interesting comment. I suppose the NSFW factor has to do with the gaming being in private space or public space.

I think that's a big part of it yeah, though some pretty NFSW-adjacent games like Zenless Zero Zone are multiplayer, they're multiplayer in a way where other people don't interact with you much (if at all). That's more like horny dolly dress (which is absolutely a thing - just look at the mods for any highly moddable 3D RPG!) up than sex scenes though.

I have said this before, but this is why you could not "get away with" BG3 at the table: people like their horny fun in private or at least with very selective partners. No one wants to pretend to romance Shadowheart with their beer buddies.

devoid of jokes is not the same as serious / mature, BG3 had jokes.

Also, talk is cheap, of course they want to make a game that sells well, that kinda goes without saying. I am not aware of anyone producing games that do not want that…

If what they wanted to say is that they want to make another AAA game (which seems to be your interpretation) they could have used those words, instead they used ‘serious’, AAA is implicit / taken for granted
I think they meant "serious" as in a serious contender.

Even the table with buddies playing, needs to be able to integrate the parts of the story that happen "off camera". Folkbelief is full of sexual scenarios, and while players might not want to reinact these scenes with each other, they are there as part of the setting, and the implications of a particular encounter. Taboos are part of the fun of a fantasy world. Dreams dont care about being prude.

For real for real.

Like, the same events could happen in the canon of a given campaign, but I think you'd need an awful lot of them to be off-screen/bluebooking, etc. and probably they wouldn't be as er... detailed.

I certainly don't think you could write that stuff into an adventure.

I mean, all the more "intimate" romance scenes are by default set to private so the other players don't get to see your dialogue choices.

All they'll hear is your heavy breathing
LOL

If we start to chat about rule34 then "turn off and let's go" ( = there's nothing else to do here), and because we don't talk about people with "exotic preferences" like gnomes, kenders, goblins or Weschelkind. But if the fandom wanted that kind of stuff they wouldn't search in TTRPG books but other "sources". They are even "parodies" of cartoon characters.

OK, let's return to the main threat. Adult players could want "content for mature audiences" but Hasbro wants to keep D&D like a family-friendly IP (and we shouldn't blame them).

There are webs for adults where you can create a chatbot for roleplay, and I mean roleplay with NSFW content in the story.

Some time I suspected WotC wouldn't like Fortnite to add some virtual tabletop mode because this could be a serious rival to Sigil project. (if this continues)

Some times I imagined a D&D videogame like a digital miniature wargame style "Moonbreaker".

Do you know the videgame for mobile "Dark Quest II"?

Unless Larian themselves (or maybe CD Project Red or Owlcat games) takes on D&D games, I will be hugely skeptical and wary.
Honestly even if Larian had committed to making a BG4 I would be skeptical. As you said, its lightning in a bottle....BG3 was a masterpiece, you are unlikely to generate even one of those. Expecting anyone to churn out continuous ground breaking works is just asking for disappointment.
