It's a bland pose. I didn't like the black either. Dragons should stalk like tigers and lunge like raptors and soar like . . . raptors (the other kind), not sit on their asses like that old dated mural of dinosaurs that used to be in the natural history museum.
Your right. its Kindof stiff.
its breathing fire, but its pose is so rigid, it doesn't seem to be in combat, its seems to be breathing fire at its leisure. This one definitely rolled bad on his initiative, save for the fire.
you can draw a straight line from its lower pelvis to its skull. For a quadruped, thats really really stiff.
Its arms are too small, almost comically so, in a tragically genetic way.
its legs are fused to almost every aspect of the sculpt.
Its also extremely top heavy. I think its larger then the base is accounting for. Its really about twice the size of the base its under as a quadruped.
Its got some nice detail in the head, and its BIG, but as a sculpture, it doesn't have many good qualities. It also could have had a better counter or venyet. It could have used some asymmetrical balance, and some basic 3 point dzn.
finally its color is... dare i say, too chromatic and too single hued (at least from this picture). It could use some grime and muck. I think more colors would really bring out the details in the sculpture.
if the artiest is reading this, I'm sorry. It has alot of really good qualities and detail, but its base form and shape could use alot of work. good luck on your next one.
PS: McFarlane dragons are really good. I have been meaning to get some. Some have *human* figures, im so going to cut them out when i get a chance.
