Wizards Sells Off GenCon!

So are they still moving Gen Con to Indianapolis?!?! I sure hope so! (at least for one) I've yet to ever have the chance to go to one, and as things stand, I never will unless it is a local event (aka relocated to Indianapolis).

As long as he doesn't move it back to Milwaukee...:)

Funny. I was just about to post that I hope he moves it back...then I read your post. The nice thing for me is my in-laws live in a Milwaukee suburb and my good friend of almost 35 years lives in Chicago (and joins me at GenCon).

Hey Talon-Derek, if you're still up please write me back!

I agree wholeheartedly with PKitty--Adkinson is no dummy. I've always liked him--he has a very nice presence and was sad to see him leave WotC. He seems very genuine and I'm very happy that WotC sold the convention to him rather than to anyone else. I can just hope that GenCon stays around for as long as I'm gaming--and that will be a long time.

Wouldn't it be weird if he were to buy back the D&D property from WotC...?

If he were to do that, someone on Pyramid suggested the perfect name for the new company: Liches of the Coast.

At this point I'm running out of things that would suprise me...

Maybe they'll sell DnD to White Wolf next...

Or Gygax.

Or announce they're selling off or killing all their properties and becoming an eCommerce solutions business (which is what happened about 1.5 years ago to the makers of my favorite computer graphics applications...). :D

None of that would suprise me. Of course I wouldn't be suprised if they sold DnD to Jack Chick at this point.

The most common reasons I've heard for anyone wanting it back in Milwaukee uusally involve either the person living in WI or some variation on that theme.:) Nothing wrong with that, but from the vantage point of everything except this and tradition, the con is much better off away from Milwaukee. If it helps any, it'sjust about as easy a drive from Chicago to Indianapolis as it is from Chocago to Milwaukee..depending on where he is in Chicago.;)

Assuming Peter & Co. run it with about the same level of commitment and tact that he ran Wizards and D&D back in the late 90's and the year 2000, then This is the best news of the year to date.

as for moving it, I would make an educated guess that it won't be moving anywhere else from Indianapolis for at least 2 years, if at all. Not only is it a great location for growth, but it also can handle additional crowds of up to a half-million peopleat any given time.

The only problem is they moved it to mid to late September (IIRC), when a lot of young gamers are just starting to go back to school.

I wonder if he's going to use Organizedplay for the coordination efforts? :D

GO, PETER! YOU RULE!

Its also another example of how America-centric WotC is.

The agreement marks the end of Wizards of the Coast's involvement in the managing and producing of gaming conventions.

HELLO, your still running GenCon UK as far as we know. As usual the Wizard only care about about customers in the USA.

Exactly. Just a cost/convenience issue for me.

Nothing wrong with that, but from the vantage point of everything except this and tradition, the con is much better off away from Milwaukee.
But this statement, I must disagree with. It could have been moved to a horrible location (Paris, Texas; Walla Walla, Washington; Plattsburg, New York; etc.). "Better off in Indy than Milwaukee" I would not (seriously) disagree with. But a generic better off anywhere but Milwaukee is not true.

If it helps any, it's just about as easy a drive from Chicago to Indianapolis as it is from Chocago to Milwaukee..depending on where he is in Chicago.;)
And this is just wrong. It's at least a whole 30 minutes LONGER drive to Indy from Chicago, than from Chicago to Milwaukee. :D :D

(Actually, according to MapQuest, it's 90 miles from C to M, but 180 from C to I--still a very easy drive.)
