Too rich for my blood. Then again, I buy stuff for games that I can actually use. Throw this thing on the table and people won't be able to see half the board.

But, if you build it they will come.

I got no problem with options I can’t justify.

A 90 dollar dragon used in game and as a major decoration for the game room makes sense for me.

some people would say no way! Explain how it’s a waste and show me x and o on a dry erase mat.

it’s all relative. And relatively speaking, this is too damn expensive for me!

It isn't just the paint jobs, the sculpts have improved quite a bit over the last twenty years.

That's true, but that's more due to technology. They used to have to sculpt them at scale, and now they can digitally sculpt them where they can zoom in to work on details. (Slightly before that they were able to physically sculpt them at bigger scales and then scan them and downsize the mold.) Either way, I doubt that it costs the company more money (at least in relative terms).

On the other hand, plastic and manufacturing is more expensive, and shipping has gone insane.

Still, I doubt that the price-point is based on cost in this case. I think it's based on an assessment of what the target customer will be willing to pay. (Sometimes AKA gouging). Personally, I think it would sell much better at a lower price, even to the point of making more profit, but I'm just "on the ground" so whatdoIknow?
