Wizkid's HeroClix is awesome, but NBC's Heroes sucks

Many of you know that I am an avid player of Wizkids HeroClix. Few of you know that I am an avid hater of NBC's Heroes.

Now, my worst nightmare has come true:

"WizKids Inc., a subsidiary of Topps and creator of the award-winning "Clix" Collectible Miniatures Game system, will be adding [NBC's] Heroes into their HeroClix line..."

In fairness, I think this is good for HeroClix. It will attract new players and sets up for future crossover potential.

But man I can't stand that show. I don't want to see Peter Petrelli and Sylar in HeroClix form.

Given how bad the paint jobs were in the new Avengers set, I can only imagine how bad of a job they will do trying to capture the likeness of each character. Not impressed at all.

I'm not a heroclix player, but in the past I have picked up heroclix singles for use in RPGs. Usually whack them off the bases and stick them on 25mm or 40mm GW bases depending on the size. The heroes set will be good for D20 Modern/D20 Future players/DMs who mine the secondary market for theme-appropriate figs.

Agreed though that this is good for Wizkids, the more people drawn to their game, the better!

Thanks,
Rich

The whole point of the TV show is that these people don't see themselves as superheros. The exception is Hiro and he constantly struggles with maintaining the superheroic ideal.

A pox on the whole idea, I say. If it makes Wiz Kids a few bucks, good for them. But there's no way I'm going to spend $200 on these things just to get a rare cheerleader or whatever.

If I spend $200 bucks on a rare cheerleader I better not be getting a mini!

A bunch of normal looking probably not very recognizable as Heroes characters miniatures for modern gaming sounds great to me.

I'm willing to bet the rookies will be dirt cheap about a month after the release.

Unless they depart from their standard practice, things like these are done as special limited edition packs available first to people who buy cases (I think) and then later on to the normal market. They did Aliens and Invicible figs (both of who have small 'casts') this way. It would be bigger than any of those sets, though, unless they select eight or so from the cast.

Sounds like an excellent idea, especially for people who love the show. This will be the first time for them trying to duplicate a specific look, though, and I don't know if it will translate well or if Peter, Nathan and Syler will all look like vaguely identical guys in modern clothing. If you're playing the game, it doesn't matter as much since what you're really concerned with is the combat dial, but for people like me who want the figures for modern/superhero RPGs, it's important.

99% chance that this will actually be a Special Boxed set, which will have an MSRP of $15-$40.

MARVEL never allows non-marvel figures, an DC never allows non-DC.

So, don't worry about chase figures or rares. This will certainly be a box set that is inexpensive and easily accessible and available.

As for non-spandex heroes, there are plenty of those in the Marvel and DC realm. We have the Kingpin heroclix in Marvel and even Lois Lane and Alfred in DC Heroclix. So there is no problem with NBC's Heroes taking heroclix form.

As a matter of fact, I expect to see a no-power Suresh in there.
