World ideas that you think are lame

Will its good a thing there's a setting out there for everyone with so many diverse tastes eh?
Amazingly it only took a few post before the digs on other settings started. And oven more amazing 3 whole pages before the inevitable Kalamar vs. the rest of the gaming world. It never ceases to amaze.

:)

I don't think anyone here realizes just how good we have it. There really is something out there for everyone.

LOL wasnt there a thread a few weeks back where people vented about the settings they hated. "I hate Tolkien oriented/derived/Influenced worlds!

But no hint of modern tech!

And while youre at it no anime or video game influences feh!

And nothing that parallels our real world-but I want cultural variety(not too much that it seemd cookie cutter and fake FR ish) and no made up languages or slang!

And no mono geographical worlds but again the geography cant be too like our world-but wait it has to make some sense and adhere to physical laws-man I hate floating cities in the sky!!!.

And no powerful NPCS dang nabbit, but I want a rich history to the world that may have been influenced by powerful gods and heroes in the past..but they all have to be off the stage by the time my game starts!"

ok...

Nightfall, give it a rest. We all know you love Scarred Lands. But not everyone else does, and that doesn't mean that they suck.

I understand how Nightfall feels. I love Dragonlance and it really winds me up when others diss that setting because they don't (or won't) understand it.

Or perhaps, understand it but have tastes that differ from yours?

Regardless, I don't know if anything is lame as such. I never liked steampunk much but the IK stuff looks real cool. But I like high magic, and low magic, heoric and grim and pretty much everything else.

I don't like badly thought out inconsistant worlds much tho.

As a counter-point, I dislike worlds that slavishly emulate Medieval Europe. Medieval Europe wasn't a romantic or fun place to be. I don't want to play "Chamberpots & Cholera". I don't want to smell like a garderrobe or have the morality of a cornered, starving rat.
Ah, so you're not much of a Harn player :D

I really hate worlds with monolithic, simple cultures, i.e. the Feist novels--everybody in country A is a thief, all the gods of country B are just like the Greek gods, etc.

Haven't read much about it, but from what I've seen, it's probably not my cup of tea. :)

Exalted, on the other hand, is totally awesome.
