Like.. wow.
And really need you say more? When the nightelf shifts while running and doesn't break stride....

What they need to do is hit the big screen with this animation and make a damn movie.

I've been saying this for years. The interstitials and mini-movies that their team makes for their games rival the best the industry has to offer.

I mean, I got chills watching this. Just AWESOME.

Down mean to be a wet blanket, but what's the big hairy deal here? What's with all the gushing? Yes, it's a very slick little video, but it shows you nothing of the game itself. Lord knows the in-game graphics aren't even close to being that good.

It's a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing.

It's a Blizzard cinematic. It's not supposed to be an in-game movie. Are you the one person who's never played a Blizzard game before? I thought you were a myth! ;)

If you want gameplay, there's a ton of gameplay videos up at http://www.WorldOfWarcraft.com/

Yep--Blizzard is famous in part for making astonishingly good cinematic sequences. The final sequence in Starcraft: Brood War is one of the most emotionally effective scenes I've witnessed in a space opera, including any on television or silver screen. And their other sequences ain't half bad, either.

Game designers, going back at least as far as Mechwarrior II in the early nineties, have had prerendered cinematic sequences. When these are done well, I far prefer them to in-engine cutscenes: they're purtier, and that's important.

Part of the point to this is to give you an image of what the game is trying to represent. While the game itself is pretty, it certainly doesn't look cinematic in the way that the intro sequence does. The intro sequence just helps you imagine a little bit of what the game graphics are representing. If that makes sense.

Hey, I do exist! ;)

Seriously, I've never played a Blizzard game. Heck, the only computer game I've purchased in the past 10 years was Temple of Elemental Evil, and that was just 6 months ago. Why should I get World of Warcraft? Sure, the trailer was pretty, but I don't have any desire to have to pay to play on a monthly basis, and I'm still on dialup at home. Call me old fashioned, but the subscription gaming model just rubs me the wrong way.

Well I'll agree with the first part, but I don't even have dialup!

I think that game companies or computer companies, are going to have to start ponying up DSL or Cable connections for people if they want them to pay per month in addition to paying for their online service itself per month.
