WorldGen V1

Hey guys, just wanted to let people know that I've made a World Generator that spits out fractal maps (and can make maps based on JPG and BMP heightmaps) at any squared resolution (I.E. 512x512, 1024x1024, etc) and I'm also working on a map editor that will let you place mountain/city/rivers/roads and such. It's all free, and all I ask for is feedback. If you like it enough to donate, I'd be tickled pink, but it's not required ;) Donations spur my interest to get the map editor out quickly :D Any suggestions or additions you think would be prudent are always welcome.

Thanks!

Interesting, keep it up. Think about adding support for the numpad and a pretty front end maybe, outputs in different formats, maybe the ability to form fractals from vector graphics. That might be especially nice for roughing in something in AI or SVG and seeding a roughness between the points and along the curves?

Well, vector graphics is a whole nother program then the way this one's done (2d perlin noise) but I would most definitely be interested in developing a free vector based version that allows in-app customization. I want the results to be parallel to an expensive package like CC2 ... so, I guess I'll be working on the vector system soon! Thanks!

If you haven't done so before, I'd suggest taking a look at Teragen too. It's 3D, but the options available for mapping out the basic surfaces look like they might be inspirational.

Hmm ...

Yeah, Terragen has some great options :) Soooo, you could make the heightmaps in terragen, then render them in my prog if ya life ;) Or I could get off my dead butt and produce something that does the same before it generates the whole map :( Off to code I go!

Looks cool, the thing I dislike about fractal maps though is that they are random. I spose thats what they are though.

Well, you could make a map in paint or photoshop or paint shop pro using black and white values (white = highest points and black = lowest) then run them through the generator. Generally they don't come out looking as good unless you really jazz them up when you make them, but it is some type of customization.
