Worldwide D&D Game Day!

I just returned from the Game Day, where I DMed my own adventure - Shadow of the Iron Throne (set as a sort of a prequel to the events in the computer game Baldur's Gate). I had six players, three from my regular group, two I know (but haven't played with) and one kid whose only experience so far was Neverwinter Nights.

It was a HUGE success. Everybody had a blast, we managed to conclude the adventure in three hours (a record!) with only slight railroading on my part. My intuition about tying the adventure in with the computer game was right, as players actually recognized several characters and the continuity was preserved (ironically and unwittingly, the party helped Sarevok take over the Iron Throne in Baldur's Gate and become a reputable citizen; they also fetched him the "iron poison" alchemical substance, thinking it was something needed to decipher a particular document :D).

5th November - global gaming day OR firework day ???

Just a quick throwaway comment from here in the UK.

5th November is "global support RPG's day" apparently - thats a right crappy choice of date for us over here in dear old Blighty, we're all far too busy letting off fireworks and setting fire to things in the company of our extended families (including embarassing drunken relatives) to worry about this trifling stuff.

(For those who wonder quite why we are busy doing this, and can't begin to understand quite why it's so important please refer to 16th and 17th century British history, and also our present laws on gun ownership and blowing things up, for us this isn't just history being remembered - its also quite exciting for us to see things blown up for real rather than on TV, especially for the kids :D )

5th Novemeber weekend - don't plan events in the UK (or World events that should include the UK) - PLEASE REMEMBER THIS.

Gencon UK is already suffering due to this "scheduling error" (and also admittedlly it's unfortunate choice of location as well this year , which is so "central" within the UK that its almost in France :) )

Anyways, must dash. I'm off to let off some extra large and extremely noisy fireworks in the back garden now that the neighbours have probably gone to sleep...

At our store, the module was a regular TPK.

It did appear to be a toughie. :D

For my part, today, I helped facilitate the event as it was run at Games Plus. William Ronald DM'd one table and had his players on the ropes most of the game. (picture)

Joshua, someone who I first met today but who also runs Games Plus's Tuesday night DDM tourneys, ran the other table of players, including one young man who came with his father and was facinated at Joshua's description of the spider swarm (picture).

Just got back from the Seattle event. It was kind of weird how this wasn't promoted much, but the attendance was good and the setup was cool in the EMP (Experience Music Project museum). The adventure was fun (Fane of Lolth) and we had six players so we pretty much crushed it. Still it took almost all of our spells and potions, and it was fun. Got a T-Shirt, bag of coins for the Three Dragon Ante game and the DM let us divvy up the miniatures from the game, so got a few of those too. Fun event, just could have been promoted better. The website said there would be updates but there weren't...

Cool. Thanks for the pics Mark.

I really wish I went and played today :)

I and the wife played in Games Day and we had fun. The adventure was a straight up dungeon crawl with some (sub par) premade characters. Everyone had a lot of laughs and my FLGS is planning a week long games 'day' in March. Different games every day gets featured, sample games in the store and discounts on the feature product (they had 10% off all D&D books today plus 10% of the purchase price goes towards a gift certificate you can claim after your tenth purchase - pretty sweet! Too bad I blew my dough on a case of Underdark :d'oh:!
