Worried about new minis?

These once was a time when Marilyn Monroe could reach in her change purse, pull out a fifty-cent piece and remark, "Yeah. I did him."

:p

I believe it was another Central IL native, Sam Kinnison, who once said, "You gotta wonder what is was like to have one finger on "the Button" and the other nine on Marilyn Monroe."

[edit]--while amusing, was Kennedy on the $.50 coin while Marilyn was still alive?

Kennedy half-dollars were first minted in 1964.

Monroe died in 1962. (Before Kennedy!)

If they'd let me buy what I wanted, I'd buy them. But they won't, so I won't.

IIRC, one of the justifications of the random packaging is the secondary market for the unwanted figs in places like ebay. If I end up getting any of the new figs, that's probably where I'll get them.

worried? concerned? no... I'll probably buy one pack, and if I'm not happy I won't buy anymore.

no real skin off my nose. If they are cool and a secondary market erupts, then i'll be pleased.

Justifications aside, IMHO the reason for random packaging is to atificially create a perception of "value" based upon "potential rarity." This leads to creating sales not based upon the real value of a product but upon the "gambling" value of a product. (ie. i could get lucky and get a "rare").

A secondary market would still exist without randomness. Randomness simply makes people buy from the secondary market as opposed tothe primary market if the person wants a particular figurine. Most figures in the secondary market are from a person who didn't get what he wanted, or got copies of what he already had.

If anyone wants a sig line..... :)

I prefer to buy a live cat when i want a live cat, and a dead one when i want a dead one.

I'd like to post my concern about the bases again. If those bases, for a 5' facing creature, don't fit in a 1" square then there is a real problem.

Why would you think the bases won't fit? The miniatures are the same as the Chainmail figs and the original D&D miniatures. So why would a miniature of a character like that human wizard with goggles (Which is being remade in this line) have a larger base than necessary?

Just because the bases are round doesn't mean they won't fit. There'll be 3 base sizes. I forget the measurements, but one will be for Small creatures (The base for which was used by the Gnome Infiltrator and Halfling Sneak among others in Chainmail), the standard base, and one for large creatures (Used by the bigger stuff in Chainmail, like ogres).

Randomness is not a Feature

This whole random packaging thing is the deal breaker.

My campaigns have monster pallets, and I want the monsters in the pallet, and not any of the others. I don't want have to go to Ebay or a local trade show to find the miniatures I want. Glass Beads, dice and coins will continue for now.

Is a real shame for Wizards too. I hate painting minis, and good quality pre-painted minis would be the Holy Grail for me. If I could buy the ones I wanted, I would buy them buy the score.

Randomized, I won't buy one.
