Worried about new minis?

Randomized Minis

Believe me, finding the mini you want will be a breeze with the secondary market that will grow around this.

This is going to be probably the best selling product line for Wizards outside of Mtg.

Bah - I'm sticking with my counters.

http://www.dragonscalecounters.com

Full color, hard plastic counters. Bases sized appropriate for D&D, as per the SRD. Dirt cheap too - typical medium creature is a quarter a piece. The largest they have - huge dragons - will run you a whole $1.20.

And you don't have to open a pack to find out what you get. As for the secondary market, for me that means ordering them off the net. No place around here will carry them (heck, no place around here carries magic singles). If I'm going to have to do that I'd just as soon order a metal mini or a counter.

Good heavens, yes! I'm so stressed out about the new minis that I can't sleep at night, I've lost 15 pounds and my wife is talking about calling a therapist.

What in the world is WotC doing to me?

Actually, all sarcasm aside, I am a bit worried that my regular gaming group will really get into the idea -- we like Heroclix well enough, and some of the group are also into MechWarrior and MageKnight. It that happens, I'll end up having to play them despite my somewhat cold disinterest right now.

I'm worried I'll spend all my money on them, and won't have any left to buy d20 stuff. Or food.

The randomness is a good thing for everyone except those too lazy to buy from the secondary market (or don't happen to have internet access).

Yes, you won't be able to buy a pack of orcs sealed in a package. But there are several places that sell Mage Knight figures individually on the net, and I'm sure they'll do the same with the new chainmail. And most game stores I've been in also do the same.

Not to mention ebay. Every figure will be on ebay the minute the game is released.

As I've said in every thread on the new chainmail, I've got a couple hundred or so MK figures (and a bunch of heroclix, probably 50) and on average, I've probably spent 30 cents a figure.

I can't wait for them to come out! :)

No, I'm serious. Everything about them - plastic, pre-painted, and random is good.

Why do I like random? Because it increases the range of different miniatures I'll end up with - and thus when an unusual encounter comes along, I'll be prepared, rather than having to find a miniature that doesn't exist because normally there isn't any demand for it.

:)

Cheers!

I'm worried my FLGS will be out before I get a chance to buy any.

Everyone in my group of six is planning on buying multiple packs. None of us were even vaguely interested in Chainmail, but the new minis really have us excited.

My problem with the secondary market is having to buy them individually, as they become available, and to have them shipped in the same manner. In addition, the "rarity" issue might make some of them impossible to find or overly priced.

Blech...

One question that keeps nagging at me is this:

How is this different from today?

You have miniatures that you can't find, or that flat out aren't produced, and some of the rarer ones are overly priced.

Cheers!

I currently paste artword into AutoCAD onto properly sized squares and print on card stock, because of the problems with the current (former?) type of miniatures. One would hope plastic would have solved that. Obviously, though, that isn't the case, but rather they would play the "hey--it's a collector's item" game.

Good point right here.

For instance, in the Forgotten Realms game I played this past sunday, the party faced off against a Digester. Who the hell makes a Digester miniature? I'd have to say no one. And chances are, if someone were to make a Digester mini, it wouldn't really sell, as it's not a monster people commonly use. Sticking a Digester in among a pack of random miniatures (Likely as an Uncommon or Rare), though, would make it more likely that it'd sell. And so it'd be worthwhile to make a Digester in the first place.

BTW: I'd like to state for the record that I hate Digesters. Bastard!
