Sumo wrestling, a minigame in one of the original dragon magazines. It was essentially rock paper scissors with dressing on it to look like sumo wrestling.

soulknife as a base class.
-right cause glowing blades of psionic energy should be avalible at 1st level. - all the time

Didn't mind that, actually. At that level, it's not really more powerful than a regular short sword.

I was under the impression that when it comes to racial stat bonuses, the mental abilities are generally considered to be somewhat less valuable than the physical ones.

Not really. Especially not when you get a bonus, since then you make this class a better spellcaster. For that reason, no core races get a bonus to the mental ability scores.

Where do you think a good number of half-elves come from? Human-elf relations aren't that common.

Half-elves aren't that common, either. I'd say the vast majority of half-elves are the love-child of their parents, or the result of a night of passion. Sure, there are some who are the result of rape, but that goes for full-blood humans, too.

Eberron explains it that Khorvar (their name for half-elves) are true-breeding, and in fact most Khorvar come from other Khorvar. No reason that wouldn't work for any other setting, too.

3.5 damage reduction. Yes, I know it's more flavourful, but it still annoys the heck out of me.

In fantasy novels and movies, the hero generally walks around with one signature weapon- they're known for that particular sword or whatever weapon it is, and it has a history behind it, stories of what they killed with it etc. People know about the legendary weapon as well as about the hero who wields it. They do not have about 15 different swords on their person at all times in case they just happen to need cold iron/silver/whatever.

Also, 3.5 weapon sizes. What was wrong with a (for example) human-size short sword being usable as a longsword by a small character? It just adds unnecessary complication and gives headaches when assigning treasure to a mixed-size party.

Ellie.

no, but it has exactly the same result as a fear effect, except that it isn't.
think plastic toys. comics. and other money grabbing items...

product placement in a what at first seemed like a module.. but when purchased turned out to be a gaming aid...

back in ye olde dayes the modules were shrinkwrapped.

this looked like a module. not like the aids like the rogues gallery, dm's log, monster & treasure assortment, etc...

The elves' collection of odd immunities (such as ghoul paralysis, and sleep and dream), and their stupid trance thing.

I think the trance thing is trying to imitate Tolkien since his elves don't sleep, but it ends up being completely useless in actual play because it gives an elf PC no advantages over non-elves. You don't get to have a bonus to Listen or Spot checks at night for not being asleep (and I've never had a GM take that into consideration - my GMs always rule that trance is just like sleep), you don't get to memorize spells faster (which makes no sense to me if wizard is the elves' favored class), so the elf in the party might as well just go to sleep at night like everybody else.

I also find it really annoying that there are so many prestige classes that are geared toward a particular base class, but require cross-class skills as a prerequisite. This means you need to choose a prestige class *at first level* so you can be sure to either put sufficient points into the appropriate abilities, or spend all your meager skill points on the required skills. Sometimes what happens to a character in roleplay makes a particular prestige class more appropriate than it appeared during character creation. But if you don't find that out until your character is 5th level and he needs 6 ranks in a cross-class skill to get into the class and he only gets 2 skill points per level... well it sucks.

Wow. I was sure you would say "dropping the use of the Chainmail rules to resolve combat".

I've got several things that annoy me to one degree or another. Probably the most likely to be "odd" is:

RACIAL SUBSTITUTION LEVELS

Dumb, dumb, dumb. A class is not a race, a race is not a class. And a class is the same class regardless of what race you are. Pointless complexity for no gain. Bad flavor, bad mechanics.
