I'm pretty happy with the way WotC is handling D&D. Sure, 3.5 wasn't truly needed, IMO, but I'm happy with it nonetheless. They are focusing on putting out quality material instead of putting out a lot of, well, crap like what happened in the days of AD&D 2E. I've always used miniatures in most of my games, so the supposed focus on miniatures gaming doesn't bother me in the least since it's very easy to play it without minis as well. As long as they stick to their current path, I'll continue to be a happy customer.

-I like the idea of a D20 Fantasy book like the D20 Modern. Heck i'd like to see a D20 Basic Book as well.

-If you thought BOVD was good, then BOED is pretty much the same. Its powerups, spell feats, and equipment are just the polar outside of BOVD (not quite that simple, but basically so). BOED is no more of a power up for good than BOVD was for evil. I was rather surprised at the flavor value i got out of these books (being a WOTC basher from the start). In fact, i have been rather surprised at the quality of WOTC books lately. I wasn't too in love with their class books before, but Complete Warrior is a vast improvement over S&F, though it does rankle me a bit having to pay twice for some of the material.

For anyone complaining about having to buy new 3.5 core books...don't!! I didn't. I love the fact that they created the SRD. Now i download what i want of it and leave the changes i didn't like. Now i can show up at the game table with a handful of the printed up changes i need. Its not like they are getting ripped off, they still get/got a LOT of money out of me (BOED, BOVD, Complete Warrior and almost certaintly Unearthed Arcana. Not to mention the pile of 3.0 books i have purchased since it came out). I didn't like the idea of the 3.5 so soon (or ever), but because of the SRD you don't have to worry about it.

AS for the flavor/style quality of WOTC, its the core company, its books can't get too specified or directed in one style or another or they would lose their market base. They have to be fairly bland so as to appeal to the majority. I think they straddle the line well enough. D20 companies exist to provide the flavor and unique styles.

-WOTC is the meat & potatoes.
-Green Ronin, Necromancer, Sword & Sorcery (and the myriad of companies like Monte's under their banner) are the Herbs and Spices.
-Atlas Games and Eden Studios are the desert.

I can't believe i am defending WOTC! :)

I tend to think of WotC as providing the basic recipe and cooking implements, the other companies provide the actual ingrediants, and the DM makes the meal (prepared and seasoned to the taste of the group).

LOL.
Just as good! :)

Very happy.

1. I like 3.5.

2. I like hardcovers.

3. I like that they don't flood the market.

4. I like that they still allow others to use their PI material as long as it's not put into OGC realms. (Fields of Blood for instance has some PI in there.)

5. Unearthed Arcana with OGC? Make some happy. I'm just glad to see another old favorite on the way.

Pleased overall with the new 3.5 product and almost everything they've done since the change from 2nd to 3rd edition. Some WoTC books I haven't bought but eventually will buy are BoTR, Ghostwalk, Complete Warrior. I didn't waste my cash on the "splat" books and I'm glad of it. Other than that I think they've done a great job with 3E and the Forgotten Realms and I hope they keep up the good work.

Oh and the mini line! Holy crap why didnt they think of this back when 3E was first printed?

Do you folks who write 3.$, think you're being especially witty?

I wasn't aware that this was the "comment on other posters" thread; I thought it was for discussing how we feel about how WotC has been handling D&D.

Oh, and in answer to your question, abso-frelling-lutely.

I really liked what WotC's doing. I've bought almost every product they've released, and all have seen use in my game.

It's funny to see the old adage that Internet discussions are overrun with malcontents in action. The poll has about 75% of people happy with D&D, but of those who responded to it a disproportionate number are negative.
