[WOTC] Core Rulebooks to be revised?

Any chance we could merge this thread with the other one?

I'll probably buy the new books too, if only to have all my errata in one place. I hate having to dig through the errata and FAQ for clarifications.

I suspect the *book feats that were reprinted in the ELH as normal feats will be included, to make the PHB and ELH more compatible.

You know what will make the price of the MM worth it for me?

A little added line in each monster's stat block:

ECL: +x

That alone will make me want to purchace it. I kinda don't hope they keep it to the "more common" races....I WANT BIZZARRE ONES TOO!

Other than that, I agree with those that've said my books are falling apart, anyway. I'd be buying some new ones soon...this just makes me hold off until these come out to get 'em. :)

I really hope they provide a way to get an 'errata update' or whatever without buying the core books again. Heck, I'd even pay something for it (less than full price of course).

Inevitably, I'll probably buy the books, but later on (end of next year at the earliest).

In any case, though, I can't see my entire group getting the revised PHB's immediately.

I hope it isn't true. I don't want to have to buy the core rule books again.

Look, folks. It's pretty straightforward. If the revised rules provide lots of crunchy goodness, people will want them.

And if they don't provide crunchy goodness, you don't need to buy them if you don't want to.

Let's say the revised MM contains new core ECL rules (transplanted from the FR campaign book). That'd be GREAT to see in a core rulebook. But you don't HAVE to have it.

And let's say they clarify certain details, such as what abilities are considered "natural" and what a monster's grapple check modifier is. And maybe they explain more clearly how certain monsters' abilities (see my thread in the d20 rules section about the beholder for a good example). You don't think that's worth shelling out $30 for? Then don't. Keep figuring that stuff out for yourself.

It is almost laughable to insist that core books should only be printed out once every five years at most. They shouldn't hesitate to make tweaks and publish updated books on annual basis, although I for one would appreciate them going to cheaper softcover editions. I don't see my hardbacks weathering the test of time all that well.

Odd, I already have a PHB...
And what changes in the rules I want, I already have.

The new books would have to be awfully compelling in some way for me to hand over another $100 to WotC for 90% more-of-the-same.

What I would most like to see them do with these revisions is give us a simple list of what has changed. You know, just a list of which spells have changed, names of new or revised feats and skills, etc. It would be so much easier if we don't have to go through each book and make sentence-by-sentence comparisons to find the new stuff.

Personally, I'll just wait and see. In my opinion, a revision is only needed if errata is too overwhelming, as is the case with the first Creature Collection. I don't really see the need for a revision of the Core books, though.

And, revising the classes to make them more balanced, as mentioned in Talon's thread? Let's face it, someone will find a new pet "broken" or "sucky" class for everyone to enjoy. ;)

I'm with you there Otu.

Sorry, listed price is $29.95 U.S.; $41.95 CAN

$29.95 US is R299.50 ZA and that's a lot (R10 = $1).
Im hoping the exchange rate gets better by the time the revised core books are released.

Sweet I'll just have to trade some of my dollars for canuck-bucks and get a slight discount! Of course I would need to sign up for the next moose-caravan...

By my calculations (assuming a 4% conversion charge), this would save USD 1.93 (6.4%).
