Technically speaking, only one player was allowed to be Indy. I think they gave rules for designing original supporting characters, though.

But I understand the house rule. Who wants to watch one player hog all the glory while he or she gets to play sidekick?

nope no chargen rules ar all were in the boxed set. Playing sidekicks is fun as it procvides a change of pace and responsibility, certainly so when the hero character is expected to cover their butts and save them when they get in too deep.
