As the original books' prices continue to increase, the DriveThruRPG sales will increase as well. While I prefer to have original copies over reprints, sometimes the cost is just too much to justify.

I for one am very thankful to not have to shell out as much as some stuff goes for used these days (looking at you, Planescape).
They're also good for replacing damaged copies or reducing wear by giving you a reading/work copy. I picked up a reprint of Temple of Elemental Evil, for example, to replace my badly scuffed and coffee-stained copy. My incoming SF hardcover will be my play volume so my loved-to-death box copy doesn't get further worn.

I have a couple of things in shrink only and I’d rather not break em out.

That's a good idea. I have a couple original books that are just in garbage condition.

I only have one original shrink-wrapped book, and I didn't realize it was when I bought it. It's a minor Judges Guild release, so it's not really worth anything. But I still have an aversion to unwrapping it.

I did buy a partially shrink-wrapped Revenge of Rusak because that was one way to make sure it had all its pieces. The shrink wrap was present, but shredded, so I didn't feel bad about actually reading it.

I thought so too about my OD&D white box but it has recently jumped in price.

There are rabid judges guild fans and a lot of those products didn’t survive well.

I did this with a few boxed sets, namely Planescape and Dark Sun. Also Dragon Kings!
