D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It seems you're focusing a bit too much on the specific example. It's about: "Hey, this is a place and role this PHB core species can be found in and has a relevant contribution to the adventure locations of that setting that you can use to find something to base your character of one of those PHB core species."

If there aren't enough Dragonborn on the planet for every major city to have a Dragonborn [something], but there are human [same something] in almost every major city, your setting seems insufficient to be that 5.24 setting.

And mind you, it's perfectly fine if Forgotten Realms isn't that "optimized for 5.25" setting. It doesn't need to be bend to be so unless you want to. But I think a setting that is designed with the PHB core races and classes first and foremost in mind would be something interesting to have.

I see nothing in the 5.5e PHB indicating that all races are or should be equally prevalent in a setting.

What would the players gain if all of them were equally prevalent in a setting? The fact that they are already a part of that setting's standard line-up of PC species should be all that matters when choosing one of them for your character. You choose a species and pick a place within the setting for them to hail from.

I still don’t understand what this is supposed to mean. The setting lore isn’t tied to any specific species.

Maybe it would help if you told me what options humans, elves and dwarves get to enjoy that aren't available to Dragonborn.

I’m a Dragonborn who lives in a 99% human city (90% it way too low for FR, and Greyhawk is 99.9% human). My friends, colleagues, boss, etc are human, because that’s the population demographic. So what? I don’t see how that makes any difference.

How do they work?

spell point pool = level + 1
spell cost = slot level
highest slot = (level + 1)/2 round down
refresh per short rest

So a level 6 caster has 7 spell points.
Casting a slot 3 Fireball costs 3 points.
Thus
S3 Fireball, S2 Invisibility, S1 Shield, S1 Mage Armor,
then cantrips until Short Rest.

an organization that is 90% human is just representative of the setting / location, whatever other species you are, you can be a member of it

Who cares that there is an elven village in the forest, there is a hill next to the forest where a mix of species live you could be from instead

The last thing I want from a setting is 8%, or whatever it boils down to, of every PHB species everywhere

Since 24 Greyhawk is part of a core book as an opt in, it should make the core species equally prominent. But that isnt the same thing as equally prevalent.

But normally, whether a species is present or absent, prominent or obscure, depends entirely on the themes and tropes of the setting.
