Is there ANYTHING that happens that doesn't indicate that 4E is about to be announced?

4e actually being announced :p

More seriously, until the extreme crunch-light lineup of this fall and next spring showed up, I didn't take the 4e doomsayers all that seriously. And even with that, since WotC has (I think) denied that they're announcing 4e at this year's GenCon (and said future big D&D launches will be at D&D Experience), I'm thinking it's not coming quite as quickly as some. I figure it'll be announced at D&D Experience 2008, and released at GenCon 2009.

Not all D&D books have been announced this far in advance so there is plenty of time for them to add to the release schedule.

Wow.....there's *nothing* during that period that's interesting to buy. That's a first for me.

I've generally tried not to contribute to 4E prognostication.....but it's either a really poor Q1 schedule, or the lull before the release of 4E. Yet, that doesn't make sense, since didn't they tell us that there's be a 1-year warning? If they are supposed to, then it's unlikely it's coming out before the summer...which would require a Gen Con 2007 announcement...but they also said the announcement wouldn't be coming at Gen Con. Unless I'm mixing up too many disparate sources of info and coming up with the wrong conclusion.

This is interesting. Based on this, I'd say that we are likely to get an announcement for D&D 4th Edition at the next Winter Fant...err "D&D Experience". I doubt we'll see an announcement at Gen Con, based on WotC saying directly "we're not going to announce it at Gen Con."

I say this because there's nothing there that I'm even the least bit interested in picking up in that entire list, and there's also no crunch whatsoever for D&D. Normally, I'm buying something for D&D at least every 1-2 months, if not more often.

In all seriousness, unless there are a lot of products added to the list, first quarter sales for D&D would take a huge nosedive without the promise of something new.

Let's hear the other side of the issue: if you don't think this means a new Edition, what does this schedule of releases mean? Is it just that we don't have all the info yet?

I think it means that several crunchy books got pushed back (Complete Warrior II, for instance) for whatever reason.

It probably also means that they had a bunch of adventures on the previous schedule to test the waters but didn't schedule more until they saw how they were received and saw what should be changed for the next wave.

They also are trying to expand the brand and go after kids and women, which most people think is a pretty good idea, generally speaking.

I suspect Q2 will have a lot of the "missing" crunch and more new adventures.
