Don't forget the circumstance bonus (positive or heaven forbid negative) for "proper gifting".

This in fact has a penalty on the check for not using the "proper tools" if no gift is involved.

Oh and all penalties are cumulative (and never, ever forgotten).

"I'm going to try to keep my wife happy": diplomacy

Good one. Don't forget the -5 penalty to the wife's sense motive score because "The target wants to believe you."

I'd argue diplomacy should apply if you have time to talk it over, bluff if you have to look really earnest RIGHT NOW.

More seriously, I think diplomacy applies; diplomacy is used to make people look upon you favorably. The fact that truths or lies are involved is incidental. The purpose of bluff is more along the lines of explaining why you've been late coming home and there's lipstick on your collar.
