Would you allow Disguise Self to do this?

Hey, I was just wondering if people would allow a character do use Disguise Self to mimic the Illumian's power sigils in appearance, including the candle-sized radiance they give off. Because if not, it would be rather hard to impersonate an Illumian, especialy in one of their cities or cabals. If it matters, this is in regards to the Hat of Disguise, not the actual spell, though the hat pretty much just lets you use the spell as much as you want on yourself.

The DM said he'd allow it for my character, because his backstory involves a lot of spy work within the Shadow City of Elirhondas, but I'm really curious now as to whether this is normally acceptable.

The restriction that illusions can't produce real light was removed by 3.5. In addition, Light is a cantrip, and gives off torch-level light. You want candle-level light to meet the requirements of the race you're disguising yourself as? It's fine, until you want to do something absurd (e.g., duplicate the lighting effects of Daylight or some such).

Does anyone else have issues quoting someone in Firefox with the new boards? I'm not seeing the text as I type it, which makes things a might tricky.

Try highlighting it by dragging the mouse. It may be in black and blending in. For me, it's defaulting to that both for quoted text and my own typing, and it's getting mighty annoying to have to change it every time I post.

It was - highlighting is a temporary fix. I did, however, find a longer-term workaround - if you click on "My Account", then "Edit Options", go down to "Miscellaneous Options" and move the "Message Editor Interface" option to "Basic Editor" the issue went away.

Well, the character in question both has knowledge local ranks (ie, for creature identification) and has lived among them (and has Illumian as one of his languages), so I see no issue in his ability to duplicate the sigils, and I never intended for the spell to give the benefits. Just you know, look real, and giving off light is important for that.

That said, how many of those above factors do you think would be needed for a person to make a decent duplication of the sigils with Disguise Self?

Remember also that Illumians can make their sigils disappear. If you are unable to maintain accurate-looking sigils you could just turn them off and rely on Bluff checks to convince people that you really are Illumian just with your sigils hidden.

I know, but I was asking specifically for use in Illumian enclaves and cities, where there isn't much reason to keep them hidden. Maybe you could Bluff your way out of it for a little while, but I'd think it'd quickly get very suspicious as to why you're keeping your sigils hidden. In a Human city, this is obviously more understandable, especially if said population has a fair number of racists and xenophobes among it.
