• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

Would you play in this game?

Essentially, it sounds quite a bit like the original Dragonlance module setup, though there are differences that someone could nitpick all day long. It is almost a dream setup for a DM - he doesn't have to worry about over (or under) powered character builds or inappropriate race/class choices. However, players will rightfully feel a bit constrained by this, and I think many will feel they are simply borrowing the DM's characters rather than thinking of them as their own.

What will you do if someone chooses one of the characters and acts in a way you do not envision that character "should" act? What if circumstances make the next logical power choice something clearly different from your planned build? Will you alter circumstances so this never happens, or will you adapt to circumstances and change things around a bit. THIS is what decides whether your campaign is the bad kind of railroad, not the campaign setup!

That being said, I know some players who don't really care what their character is and will earnestly play whatever is set in front of them. They would have no problem with this game.
