Wyvern as Mount

I've been tooling through the DMG and it mentions the possibility of having extraordinary mounts, including pegasi, unicorns, among others. It goes on to say that (round about p.204) a mount with INT over 4 should be treated less as a mount and more as a character. So a player might want to think about getting the Leadership feat for his mount to act as cohort. The DMG says you'll probably want at least a +3 LA to determine ECL for Leadership.

Long questoin short: could someone please outline the formula for assigning a wyvern a LA? You'll get a "cool" smiley as payment. (and a bunch of cool smileys if you make the LA really low! )

Right...

I did some checking with the MM, and a Griffon has a +3 LA for being a cohort. How would the two compare, since they seem to be fairly equal in many aspects.

I'd put the wyvern at +3 LA (cohort) too. The advantages it has over the griffon are the poison, improved grab, and immunities, but the griffon is faster and more maneuverable, and has a coupel of abilities (pounce, rake) of its own. Seems to even out.
