D&D 5E [Xanathar's Guide] What is your first PC you're gonna make?

Have several concepts but I like to see how if any changes were made but right now the ones I am working on in my mind several are Multiclassed

Barbarian/Fighter Storm Hearld Scrouge Asmair hey stacking aoe damage Radiant and Fire Weapon/Shield not sure what weapon yet leaning towards spear or sword

Kensei/ Fighter Human probaly Versitle 2h sword and darts no magical weapon needed most likely Battle Master but maybe Samurai or Knight have to wait and see

These are the main two and I may also look at Fighter/Hex warlock build not sure
I hadn't considered multiclasses. Both of these sound pretty cool but I especially like the blending of the samurai and kensei.

Samurai Goliath Fighter with a Greatsword flavored like an informal no daichi. I'm also going to start working on my Bladelock guide- one where the premise is that a Bladelock is now something different than a hexblade and different from the way we played it before. I may make an Eladrin, Goblin and Fallen Aasimar version to showcase different ideas for it if everything pans out the way I want it to.

Human Dungeon Master.

I'm already in the middle of a game as a PC, and have a fairly clear idea of where I want to go with him. I'll probably end up using this books as a DM more than as a player anyway, as I usually find myself preferring to DM more than play.

My own campaign is wrapping up in the next month or two and I'll be handing over the DM hat, so Xanathar's Guide is coming out at the perfect time. The new warlock invocations and spells (like danse macabre) have me very interested. I've wanted to play a warlock before, but was always concerned that combat would get monotonous... if the new stuff opens things up a bit, I might give it a shot.

Well, now that I have the book, here's what I'm looking at for my first XGtE PC. It's a lot different from what I had been originally planning. This is a D&D Adventurer's League-oriented PC and is being built to 11th Level using DM XP because I have an existing Very Rare magic item I've been looking for a player to make good use of.

Class: Bard (College of Swords) 10 / Warlock (Hexblade) 1
Race: Half Elf
Starting Stats: Str-10, Dex-14, Con-15, Int-10, Wis-12, Cha-16
ASIs: +2 Cha at 4th and 8th (20 overall) then Resilience (Con) at 13th. From there TBD.
Magic Item: Oathkeeper (Long Sword of Speed)

Why: I like melee-oriented spellcasters. With this you get some interesting melee capabilities with the Sword Bard (Extra Attack, Flourishes, a Fighting Style, weapon acts as spellcasting focus) mixed with the Hexblade Curse (1/rest) and Hex Warrior (martial weapon, armor and shield proficiencies along with the all-important use of Charisma for weapon attack and damage bonuses). At 15th level (Bard 14 / Warlock 1) he'll get a substantial boost in being able to use a d6 with his Flourishes instead of burning a Bardic Inspiration Die and be able to gain Tenser's Transformation from the Wizard's spell list. He will miss a 2nd 7th level spell and the Bard's Superior Inspiration but that seems like a good exchange for the Hexblade capabilities.

I'm very much looking forward to the new Warlock stuffs, but I've played Warlocks a lot so I'll probably try some of the other stuff first. The new Rangers all look interesting, especially when using the Revised Ranger chassis. Both the Ancestral Guardian and Storm Herald Barbarians look like fun(but man, it's hard to pick something besides that yummy Bear Totem). The Rogue Scout and Arcane Archer are definitely right up my alley, good chance I'll try them pretty quickly. Combining Arcane Archer and Bladelock with the Improved Pact Weapon invocation(to which they added the choice of a few ranged options to the weapon you can conjure as your Pact Weapon), not to mention Eldritch Smite is another build I'd like to try sometime. I *wanted* to try it back when the Moon Bow invocation was still around, but I never got the chance :(

So, hexblade gets charisma instead of Dex or Str for attack and damage? Does it work with all melee weapons?
A Paladin/Hexblade or straight Hexblade will be tempting. Paladin for starting armour, then Hexblade for charisma + ranged backup (Eldritch blast), then Paladin at least until Extra Attack.

I'll make a bunch of characters. Which one I'll get to play is a different story. I'll likely make a Zealot, A Thor themed storm herald, An Ancestral Guardian, and a Gloomstalker. I may also try a couple of the fighters like Samurai or Knight.
