Yay! Parodying "T$R" as Ha$bro.

You may recall back during 2e, when people were accusing TSR (then producers of D&D) of being money hogs, the term T$R came to be used as a derogatory term for the company. (it was also kind of a small joke about how the S in TSR was actually a dragon)

So now, since a lot of us seem to be miffed at Hasbro, we can now refer to it as Ha$bro. I'm not personally that angry about what Hasbro is doing, but if you want to insult the company, let me offer you the choice of the term "Ha$bro."

I am always suprised by how mad people get when a company wants to make money. I am not trying to start anything but this will probably degrade into something nasty.

Sorry, just trying to keep this kinda silly and light-hearted. I can't accuse Hasbro of being too greedy, since corporations are supposed to make money. The worst I can do is say that they probably don't game nearly enough.

So just be civil. I was just making a little joke.

Eh, Transformers fans have been calling them "Ha$bro" (or "Hasblo") for years and years...

And it's not that they're trying to make money, Dagger, it's that they're putting out poor-quality products, getting rid of big-name people in order to hire people who'll for half the pay, and other bad business decisions, that upsets people. At least, that's how I see it.

BTW RangerWickett, the reason people are predicting doom for this thread is because the whole "T$R" thing was a VERY touch subject back in the TSR days. Employees at TSR, very understandably, didn't care to be characterized as money-grubbing misers. In fact if I recall correctly using T$R was grounds for getting banned or put on notice on TSR's e-mail discussion lists.

However, in this case, I say big deal -- Hasbro is so big that I'm sure they don't even know we exist. It's like if we were to say Micro$oft -- whose feelings will be hurt, Bill Gates'? Of course, neither do I think that setting ourselves (our community, D&D players as a group, etc) as adversaries of Hasbro or WotC is particularly beneficial.

Well, to Hasbro's credit, they do occassionally listen to the fans. It was because of the TF fans that Robots in Disguise got imported over (though some may regret that), PVC's are being imported, G1 comics being reissued, and the fact that they gauge what they'll do in a toyline based on turnout at the BotCons (which Hasbro bought a few months ago). Plus, the writers of Beast Wars often visited TF messageboards to get input from the fans (and worked some of the fans names into the eps); same goes for the new comics (now that Simon Furman's back writing).

Hrrrmmm... maybe Hasbro's been too focused on appeasing the TF fans, and not enough on the D&D people!
