(YB) Shou Ren humbles the Bright Necromancer!

Shou Ren glares at Rini from behind his bronze mask. Then he turns and walks stiffly toward the broken and shattered land left by the Bright Necromancer's spell, leaving behind the untouched strip where his defensive magic preserved the lives of Rini's animal friends.

The lizard dances below the canyon; fends off the chi of the fires!

The necromancer calls upon the dark powers, focusing their essence into a small bit of air. Material of this world resists exposure to such great amounts of eldritch force, and this it attempts to become not of this worl: The concentration is overpowering, rending a gash into the realm of shadow. The gash crackles with the energy of the grave, throwing off black sparks, dancing and twisting in the unnormal light, growing ever larger.

Soon, the gash has widened considerably: it is now a veritable canyon between the realm of reality, and the realm of the unreal. Black lightining arcs away from the planar portal, connecting with the open right palm of the Bright Necromancer. The tall man brings his hands together, letting some of the energy entwine about and dance to his left. Then, he turns his attention away from the dark power, and back to Shou Ren.

The Necromancer flings his palms out twords his opponent, the ebon lightnings streaking forth! With deft flicks of his wrist, Bright sends weaves of energy to entangle the masked wizard. The weave burns with an evil fire, to scourge away the Chi of all it touches.

The masked wizard stands unmoved in the face of the shadowy rift. In fact, he seems stronger than before, as if the necromantic energies sent against him had increased his strength rather than weakening him.

Reaching beneath his left sleeve, he touches his still-open wound and brings forth a fresh flow of blood. Chanting, he draws a single scarlet line upon the air, a line that congeals into a scarlet staff. The staff gleams wetly, as if lacquered in blood.

As the Bright Necromancer’s woven lightnings lash across the battlefield, Shou Ren gestures with one hand as he holds the staff before him in the other. The lightnings twist uneasily in the air, seeking a path, before they latch onto the end of the staff. Shou Ren continues to gesture, and the web of ebon lightning wraps itself tightly along the staff’s bloody length.

Now, the staff throbs and pulses with an unhealthy blend of liquid red and crackling black energies. Speaking a word of power, the masked mage draws back his arm and hurls the staff at his foe like a spear. The staff only flies a few yards before it falls to the ground. But unlike a normal weapon, it disappears into the ground without trace, as a fish parts the waves.

A moment later, the staff bursts up from the earth and plunges, not towards the Bright Necromancer, but directly into the heart of the rift. As a wave of scarlet fire passes over the black gateway, it trembles, lashes out with uncontrollable arms of black fire, and starts to collapse. A sudden, blinding whirlwind of dirt and debris springs up around the dwindling ebon portal as it attempts to suck everything around it into the shadow realm.

The Bright Necromancer, as has been noted, stands near the portal.

The staff slides below the tower; grasps the blood of the pole!

::Rini, by now, has encased herself and all the critters into magic protective bubbles.::

This goes to Shou Ren, and I'm sorry Shou Ren if it seems unreasonable for me to get angry at you, but if we should all let offences pass for the sake of one kindness, we would be easily over-run. When your kindnesses out weigh your offences, then it'll be fine. Think about it.

::A vulture in a bubble floats over to Shou Ren.::

Shou Ren: 3; BN: 2; Goal: 5

The masked wizard traces a shadowy rune in the air and gestures towards the collapsing portal. A black wind springs up. It begins as a faint, foul whisper, but grows in seconds into a howling gale of darkness that draws the last of the necromantic energies of the rift across the battlefield towards Shou Ren. Spreading his arms wide as he chants the final words of the spell, he welcomes the darkness into his body and soul. Cloaked with death, armored with shadow, the masked necromancer radiates a palpable vileness that destroys all that it touches.

Raising his arms, the mage makes a twisting, spiraling gesture. Darkness flows from his hands. All around, the stones and debris of the battlefield quiver and stir, then leap into the air! The wreckage begins to circle Shou Ren, slowly at first, then faster and faster, to form an all but impenetrable barrier of whirling shards.

What rite then transpires cannot be determined, for the masked wizard can no longer be seen nor heard beyond his barricades of shards and shadows. The result of his working, however, soon becomes all too clear when it oozes from the shattered earth near the Bright Necromancer’s feet. The thing is a nightmarish quadruped of wolf-like aspect, nine feet high at the shoulder. Its body is black water, its eyes tongues of red flame. Stone fangs jut from its maw, and its breath is a foul, poisonous wind.

Leaping into the air, the wolf-thing descends upon the Bright Necromancer! Even if it fails to mangle him with its jaws or wither him with its breath, surely he will drown in the depths of its foul body…

The wolf drowns the ocean; quickly protects against the rising of the lash and perfectly absorbs the touch of the grave!

The phoenix annihilates the heavens so it severs Mount Kachi; shields the speed of the barrens! *yen*

The necromancer traces an arcane rune in the air, which glows with a blood-colored fire. The flame flares up, enveloping the necromancer's hand in dancing flames. Raising his eyes to the sky, Bright yells three words of power, to call forth a blazing phoenix!

The great bird swoops down out of the heavens, it's wings of blue-hot flame burning as bright as the sun. It screams a cry of jubilation as it wheels near the clouds, then dives down strait twords the vile mutation of a thing that Shou Ren dares summon to this world! The phoenix dissolves in a blazing inferno, a bolt of magical flame, burning to annihilate the monster and sever it's ties to the Shadow Realm.

Whoa!

::Rini quickly casts timestop from a scroll and looks down upon the scene.

She then takes out her magic bag and pulls out a mostly gray, kinda colored strands in some places, cat.::

Sarah, sweetstuff, next time I want to judge a spell casting match, remind me not to bring my animal friends or anyone else, and to always cast sphere of protection and levitate at the begining of a match, ok?

::The cat looks down, looks at Rini, and nods. Sarah then crawls back into her sack to catch a mouse she put in there sometime.::

::Rini then takes a moment to think about it and lets time resume. As she watches, the phoenix dives down upon the wolf, a molten feather droping to the now twisted landscape as a yen. The wolf beast has almost reached Bright when the phoenix and it collide. There is a tremendous explosion and Rini's bubble rocks back and forth a bit. She lets a whistle escape from her lips.::

Well, it seems that the phoenix and wolf beast have negated each other. One seems to have been crafted out of a well woven spell, while the other it's natural better. But who is to say which won but I? Of course! We could let the yen decide!

::She mumbles about the stupid metal finally being useful to her as the explosion sends the yen careening toward Shou Ren. The animals have been teleported home for thier own safety and Rini's limited spell/time fear.::

Hey, what? Your post says that we each gained a flag. I'm pretty sure from your post that you meant for it to go to Shou Ren, but could you edit for clarity? Thanks,

-Jeph

Oops. My bad. Corrected. Thanks!

::Sarah sticks her head out and shakes it. Incidentally, she caught the mouse.::

The snake punches over the prairie; shields against the violence of the garden!

The necromancer, knowing defeat when he sees it, half-heartedly hurls a serpentine ray of dark, destructive, etc., etc., energy at Shou Ren, hoping it will punch through his defenses and do some bad stuff to him.

Okay, from now on, only a total of 3 active YB/BYA characters, and I'm going to stick to traditional, speed, and strategy matches. This is exhausting. :o :) :(
