Yet another Manyshot question...

Just when you thought it had all been answered (and maybe it already has...I did a search, but couldn't find what I was looking for...)

Let's just say that I have an archer character with a +2 Giant-bane shortbow. He has the manyshot feat. He has a +1 strength bonus to the damage (mighty bow). He knocks two arrows and fires at a giant. What damage does he do to the giant?

a) Does the giant bane extra damage apply to each arrow or just the one attack? (2d6 vs. 4d6)

b) Does the strength bonus to damage apply to each arrow or just the one attack? (+1 vs. +2)

c) Does the +2 magic bonus to damage apply to each arrow or just the one attack? (+2 vs. +4)

Little help? (this is going to come up today, so I'd like to get this figured out ahead of time...)

Thanks!

Both arrows.

Both.

Both.

Hope that helps.

IIRC, only precision based damage is used for just one arrow. E.g. Point Blank Shot and sneak attack... though this has been discussed previously and Weapon Specialisation 3.5 was "probably" added twice... whatever. Precision based damage is not explained properly.

Quick question, I thought that one of the changes between 3.0 & 3.5 is that the magical bonus of the bow is added to the 'to hit' roll and is used for overcoming DR, but not added to damage. Am I wrong on this? Have I been misled by multiple GM's?

Also, does the bonus from mighty bow (+1) stack with the bonus from magic (+2)?

I thought the strength aspect was like masterwork, and did not stack with magic.

Yes, it seems you have been misled. The enhancement bonus from the bow applies to both attack roll and damage, and also counts for overcoming DR. The difference in 3.5 is that it does not stack with the enhancement bonus (if any) from the ammunition. Just use the higher number. So a +1 bow firing +2 arrows will give a +2 to hit and damage.

From SRD
Ranged Weapons and Ammunition: The enhancement bonus from a ranged weapon does not stack with the enhancement bonus from ammunition. Only the higher of the two enhancement bonuses applies.

Ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an enhancement bonus of +1 or higher is treated as a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. Similarly, ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an alignment gains the alignment of that projectile weapon (in addition to any alignment it may already have).

So it seems that you can use *either* the bonus from the bow or the ammunition. If the arrow is non-magical, the bonus from the bow can also be used to overcome DR.
