I agree, but who outside the US would like GI JOE enough to watch and bring in worldwide revenue?

I mean, this is NOT Baywatch.
The same people that watched Saving Private Ryan, the Hunt for Red October, U-571, etc. Just because a movie focuses on an American military unit doesn't mean that it won't have any international appeal. They can get a Destro with an actual Scottish accent and a Baroness with a Russian or German accent. Cobra has the international flavor going, and they've always been cooler than the Joes. :p

Donnie Wahlberg was great as sergeant Lipton in Band of Brothers. He would be good as a commanding sergeant.

without getting overtly political
is making a movie about American military 'heroes' fighting evil terrorist a good idea given the current 'situation'?

Only if produced and/or directed by either Michael Moore or Oliver Stone, and usually ended up having the soldiers go anti-war.

You'd never see such a [Michael Moore] film where an Al Qaeda member think terrorism is wrong.

What's wrong with the US Navy?

Nothing. I didn't mean that in "I think the navy stinks" kind of way. Shipwreck's a sailor, and I never enjoyed that particular occupation, civilian or military wise. Probably because I've been terrified of drowning since I was 4 years old. Actually, now that I think about it, i liked the Navy SEALS when I was a kid....

So yeah. That's why I'm surprised I liked Shipwreck when I was a kid.

Sorry if that off-hand comment offended anybody in the Navy out there!

Well, Shipwreck passed the SEAL training so he's a SEAL now, too. So you now have a reason to like him. ;)

If they do put in Shipwreck, he better have Polly with him.

In retrospect I'd probably swap out Rock 'n Roll for Roadblock but I've heard somewhere there are some licensing issues with Roadblock (this could just be speculation though). I put in Zarana because I am more of a fan of the Larry Hama era of GI JOE comics than the cartoon itself and she plays a big role in the comics. That and I thought the baddies could use another female character. Tomax and Xamot are good choices too though; I had actually forgotten all about them.

Remember, though, you want to keep the number of characters down. Otherwise, things get watered down, and you get Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Wellllll...the Joe team is basically a fictionalized version of Delta Force, and they didn't always fight Cobra. In the first 10 issues, the primary opponent was Cobra 7 times, the others being an Inuit mercenary hired by the Soviets (issue 2), domestic "militia" types (issue 4), and the Oktober Guard (issue 7), though they then team up with the Oktober Guard against Cobra in the next issue. It'd be nothing at all to have them start out in Afghanistan, and then have to come home to deal with Cobra.

I desperately hope they treat it seriously, and not as a live-action cartoon. Something like how they treated SPECTRE in the most recent Bond movie would be ideal. (I suspect this would mean less ninjas, for starters)

Brad

Well I'd be fine with less ninjas; they only really need two IMO, one from each side-Mr Black and Mr White.

;)
