Designer Jeff Grubb posted on Facebook—“It’s been 20 years since the original d20 Modern has come out and game design has evolved.“It’s not so much duplication as it is inspiration; basically taking the same things that we faced [while making] d20 Modern and saying, ‘OK, how do we handle it with this modern situation? How do we handle today’s world? How do we handle it with today’s mechanics?’ It’s a great opportunity to do for traditional D&D role-playing what d20 Modern did for the D&D of its age.”

With another company, Renegade Game Studios, producing Hasbro properties like Transformers, GI Joe, and more, 80s action properties are making quite the TTRPG comeback!

Our first tabletop role-playing game is Everyday Heroes™ - a roleplaying universe set in the modern era. Inspired by D20 Modern, Everyday Heroes™ provides a complete rulebook on running campaigns in the current day or the near future. The book covers everything you will need to run a modern-day campaign. This includes modern new character classes that fit within the modern-day theme. It also includes professions (e.g., Fireman, CIA operative, Chef) and backgrounds (e.g., rich kid, military brat, gang member) to help flesh out your character. firearms and equipment, modern adversaries, and revised rules on car and foot chases.

That's very clever.

Instead of a franchise with the numbers filed off which loses some cachet or a long approval process for a setting book because it is filled with all of those little details the initial creator never needed to think about to make a movie but comes with full on world building, you do a mini-setting. and an adventure. It's much shorter, provides an example of play, and comes with brand recognition.

I bought GURPS like an addict because I wanted to run the Car Wars RPG.

My only confusion is with Pacific Rim, it comes with a class but no mention of mech rules? Does that mean they're in the base game? An accidental omission?
All you needed was GURPS Autoduel for Car Wars rpg.

But...unfortunately, once one gets into GURPS....it's grabs ahold and never lets go!! : )
Sourcebooks are ridiculously good!

I mean aside from Amazing Adventures 5e, The Spy Game 5e, Ultra Modern 5e Redux.....
and for Sci-fi Esper Genesis

Oh, there were several Autoduel books, my friend. Several. And once that wore thin, there was so many genres -- and as you said -- so many good sourcebooks.

The current plan is that the Cinematic Adventures will have enough rules material to make the adventure work and to let folks make some adventures of their own in that world.

We are also looking at full sourcebooks for settings that call for it and when the license holder is keen on it. They aren't part of the Kickstarter, but they are on the drawing board. Pacific Rim is one of the prime candidates for that. Others, like Rambo and Escape from New York, are so close to our core setting and rules, that there wouldn't be a full sourcebook worth of material that we don't already cover in the core game. But every adventure will include new rules material and background for the setting.

That's a neat idea! There are plenty of movie worlds I'd love to play one-shots in, but huge setting books are mostly wasted for such short campaigns. This smaller, adventure-scale format seems like a great alternative.

I was on the edge about this - I like the concept of a modern version of d20 modern, but my gaming time is filled up with other systems. I'll buy the occasional RPG for spec for future, but there has to be a strong hook.
The licenses on this wasn't just a strong hook, I was grabbed by a Jaeger and pulled in. With Kong there, the possibility of Mecha Vs Kaiju is very intriguing. I've seen all the movies, and most of them are favorites. My wallet is whimpering, but I'm happy.
