"You dont play D&D, Mister!"

Hmmm, I've played some kind of roleplaying game since it was this little set of paperback booklets named for a type of armor. I cut my teeth on 1st Edition- at the time it was simply called AD&D. Over the years I've seen several games come and go. Some of them were excellent but didnt' survive, and some of them were horrible and managed to do so. (I still miss Chaosium's Superworld and think that Trinity/Abberant was one of the worst ever made)

Over the years my friends and my exwife with certain level vituperance, have come to simply refer to it as "gaming". (Okay, the ex refers to it as geek-@ssed gaming) That general term can appy to anything from 1st Edition (I still have all the books) to GURPS, to D20, to my new favorite- Blue Rose.

In the end, what I run and for the most part play can only be broadly recognized as any actual system, but is primarily ROLEplaying.

Until today, I refered to it as D&D or "a D&D-type game". I shall heretofore refer to it as geek-@ssed gaming. It strikes me as the perfect generic term, as it also covers miniature and board games with a geek appeal.

That's because Dungeons & Dragons -- and not Vampire: The Requiem :p -- is the most common household name among the mainstream. Being the "mother of all RPGs," I can understand how it become a synonymous term.

It was a shock, but you know, he was right. I play a fantasy d20 or OGL game, loosely based on the D&D product.

And?

That's the way you play D&D. Or at least the way I have played for 20 years or so.
